I agree with pretty much everything he said. I mean, I do think that more people are openly aware that sports "don't matter" than he thinks, but the bottom line is that it's entertainment. The reason we become emotionally invested in sports, while not in movies/TV shows, is because even if the game isn't our real life, it's the players real lives. You become involved in the sport for entertainment, but "getting to know" the players is a side effect of being a dedicated sports fan. It is natural, as human beings with feelings and compassion, that we would feel down when "our team" loses and feel elated when they win.
