Default USA U19 gets BLASTED by Lithuania 101-72 at World Championships

Team is made up of current college players like Jeremy Lamb, Tim Hardaway Jr and Joe Jackson. Coached by Paul Hewitt (lol).

I realize this isn't exactly our best squad, but I don't think any US team should ever lose by 30.

It wasn't the world championships, it was a tune up game against the Lithuania U20 team. They'd had 3 days to prepare and played the day after their flight, obviously jet lagged.

Ok, that makes a little more sense.

Still kind of embarrassing though.

Many of the players from the previous u-18 and u-17 teams are not playing.

They are already in summer school taking classes and working out with the pros from their college.

I got to watch these guys try out last weekend. I think they will be okay. It sucks that a few big time players turned down the offer but they still have some solid talent.

While some posters exaggerate the quality of international players and leagues, there is something to be said about the the talent gap between domestic basketball and international basketball. It is shrinking, rapidly. Not only because the international players are getting much better, but also because our domestic competition is getting progressively worse. our high schools suck, and our colleges aren't as great as people make them out to be. The youth system in Europe is way better, in soccer as well. With the lockout, things are going to change even faster in the next 2 years. USA may not win the 2012 Olympics.

Is that why the USA holds the Gold Medal at every level of International competition?

If you're going to try and hype up the demise of USA Basketball, at least wait for a time when we aren't completely dominating the World at every level.
