People talking about replacing a dude who had a top 5-7 peak for someone who's peak is top 15-20 (at best). The former was better defensively and easily a better playmaker and scorer.

Good luck against Magic's Lakers.

And yes, playing the passing lanes does make him better when you factor in Dirk doesn't do anything well defensively. Allen Iverson and Anderson Varejao? What a weak analogy. Anderson Varejao actually predicated his game off the defensive end - Dirk?
I am guessing you missed the entire 2010-2011 season, people still calling Dirk a weak defender?

I'm guessing you haven't watched a lick of Bird's career.

Or he would be the SF, considering how he played SF during the early decade of 2000.

How does that really mean Dirk wouldn't win a title with 80s Celtics? This isn't a Bird vs. Dirk thread if you did't know by now.

Dirk is a very average defender. He does nothing special and is a huge liability if he has to cover someone quicker. That's why he was on Anthony for a good portion of the finals.

I don't see Bird as an average defender nor a liability against most players.

I am a huge Dirk fan but this is pretty much a wash. It's like comparing Joe Montana and Drew Brees. Both are awesome quarterbacks that put up huge numbers, if you put Brees on the 80s 49ers they probably win the same number of titles. Brees played with a lot of shit teams in San Diego.

Actually, Dirk is a pretty good man to man defender. Its in defensive rotations and protecting the rim where he has struggled.

So you are way off if you think Dirk's man to man defense is where he struggles. Its not.

You would think winning the title and having one of the greatest playoff runs of all time would educate people. Now I have to hear that Dirk couldn't possibly win a title playing on some of the most stacked teams in an era that suits Dirk perfectly on a team that suits him perfectly with a guy like Parrish doing all the things Dirk struggles with.

Sigh...........

That's a myth. There's absolutely nothing that supports putting Bird's peak into that range.

Because he does nothing better than Bird except shoot (and be better at it).

How old are you?

If you don't like the Brees/Dirk comparison it's probably because you don't realize how good Drew Brees is.

Educate people? Right.

lol at thinking Dirk could replace Bird and still win 2-3 titles. Nothing supports that. Bird had an all-around game Dirk could only dream of.

Silly thread made by a prepubescent french fry who started watching basketball after Dirk was drafted.
