Why wouldnt Portland keep Oden? 31 pick in the draft how long ago? Use your brain.

What has Greg Oden done in the NBA? I can list things those 3 have, 2 of whom are still playing today. Atleast you can depend on them being healthy (the obvious two that is). Stupid argument by you. It is overpaying, period.

Its much better to just pay him and keep him then watch him walk and then watch him somehow stay healthy for a year and have a lot of success.

Heat don't have enough cap space to get him.

I doubt Oden's value is MLE level quite yet.

And even then, I don't think it is likely or wise for a win-now team like the Heat to blow all its MLE on a risky player like Oden.

Hopefully he recovers and becomes a productive player.

Blazers almost in a no win situation with Oden. I think they did the right thing. Might as well pay him for at least one more year and see what happens. Last thing they want is to see Oden tearing it up in the league for someone else......gotta bite the bullet.

Just saying that dispite a team being over the cap, they could (depending on the new CBA) sign a player like Greg Oden.

And he's a risky player no doubt, but one I'd risk $5-6mil per on for atleast 2 years, maybe 3.

No way he signs an MLE. Knicks alone would probably offer a much better deal.

Unless there is a hard cap and a totally new system, the Heat are very much alive in going after Oden.

Indications are that there would still be the MLE to begin with.

Not to mention that the Heat are probably going to be spending a ton of money regardless after failing. If they think a guy like Oden is the difference, they will do everything they can to make it happen.

Minus Eddy Curry, even though Bargnani and Dalembert aren't worth their contracts, at least they actually play.

The QO is what the league set for a player who was picked at that spot.

Doesn't mean he has to take it, and I'm sure someone is gonna offer him a deal.

Probably a 3yr 12-15mil type deal, from a team that don't have small pockets.

Question is.....

Does Portland match that?

Or if he walks and actually recovers and wind up having a pretty decent NBA career, what would be thought of Portland then?

Portland is in a bad spot either way.

Portland will match. And Greg Oden will not turn down $8.8mil to sign a 3yr $12-15mil deal.

He is going to get at least 8.8 million next year, so the Heat can't sign him via MLE (if it is the same as the old CBA).

The problem for Portland is if some team that is lousy and rebuilding decides to give Oden a three year deal at say 9 million per year. Does Portland then match? If they do and he gets hurt, then they are stuck with a bad contract for 3 years. If they don't match and he bolts and does well and is healthy, then they lost out on a solid center.

A team like Minnesota, Sacramento, Utah or New Jersey could take a flyer on him.

Money in terms of paying is not a problem, but the hit on the salary cap is.
