Exclamation Bynum Breaking Out in 2012

Quote:
The first thing the vast majority of NBA fans first think of when they hear the name Andrew Bynum is injuries. What most fans don’t know about Bynum is that he's one of the hardest workers in the entire league.

The 23-year old center is entering the offseason healthy for the first time since 2007.

In 2008, a partially dislocated knee cap required surgery forcing him to miss the entire postseason in which the LA Lakers fell to the Boston Celtics. He suffered a torn MCL in 2009, but was able to play through it as the Lakers won their first title since the Shaq and Kobe days over the Orlando Magic. Bynum tore his meniscus in the first round of the 2010 playoffs, but heroically dodged surgery until the offseason as Los Angeles got revenge against the Boston Celtics in the Finals with Bynum’s help.

He did actually hyperextend his knee this past season, but it was nothing serious as he played in every playoff game and was a force. Bynum averaged 14.4 points and 9.6 boards a game in the postseason. He played better than Pau Gasol and showed why the Lakers are unwilling to trade him for anyone but Dwight Howard himself.

Bynum tweeted a couple of days ago that he’s been training with Freddie Roach in the boxing ring. He already has tremendous length and leaping ability. Some added quickness would do the 7’0”, 285 pound Bynum wonders.

He has continued to progress each season; of course, he has so much motivation to use to train. Bynum has been caught up in trade rumors since just his second year in the league when Kobe Bryant was pushing for Bynum to be swapped with Jason Kidd. In hindsight, it looks like the Lakers made the right choice on every possible trade they’ve passed on.

If healthy, look for Bynum to have an All-Star caliber season for the Los Angeles Lakers next year.

Count on it!

“Ultimately, [Bynum will] have to fall in line because I’m gonna shoot the ball – we all know that,” Bryant said. “Pau is going to get his touches; he’s No. 2. And then [Andrew] will have to fall in line.”

.. Good luck with that.

As crazy as it sounds coming from a Mavs fan, I really do hope the Lakers figure this shit out. I don't see how Kobe/Pau/Bynum can co exist together at an optimal level given the mind set of Bynum and Kobe.....and add to that the fact that Pau needs to be the 2nd option to flourish.

Unless Bynum is happy playing the 3rd option role and primarily being a defender/rebounder.....I just don't see it working that well. I think they are prime for a lot of "trust" and "chemistry" issues again.

Kobe isn't going anywhere of course....and he's earned the right to tell Bynum to STFU.

I just think Bynum or Pau should be traded.

I feel like people have been saying this the past 2-3 years. "This is Bynum's year" then he get's hurt or just disappears.

And even if he's healthy. Its pretty much impossible for him to reach his potential playing next to Gasol. There simply aren't enough touches consistently for him to play at an optimal level offensively.

Not to mention Kobe continues to rack up one of the highest usage rates in the league.

The Lakers either need to trade Bynum or Gasol or completely revamp how they play imo.

No matter what they will always have a chance because of the greatness of Kobe.....and how talented they are, but other teams are getting better. The Thunder will be better again next year. Hopefully the Mavs will remain formidable.....and then there is always a surprise team that is dangerous.
