Default Do you think David Stern needs to retire?

He has been an NBA Commissioner since 1984. I want to see a younger commissioner with a good vision for our league.

I want to see a commissioner that isn't an asshole that fixes games and gives superstars special treatment. So basically, the next commissioner needs to do the opposite of what Stern does.

Nope.

As much as Stern is criticized he was responsible for bringing about the glory years of the NBA in the 80's and then the Jordan Era. Hes traditional & stubborn on certain issues, but hes been open to make some changes for the good of the NBA.

I dont want a new commisioner coming in and making a whole bunch of changes to ruin the game of basketball just to get more viewers like the way Roger Goodell has done for the NFL.

I prefer trusting the next 5-10 years to Stern's leadership than giving it to some newb.

How does it work anyway? Is there a board that can vote him out or does he rule as long as he wants, until he decides its time to step down?

I think he rules as long as he wants.

I remember seeing that hee is the longest serving commisioner in professional sports history.

I want a new commisioner that brings some integrity back to the league. No superstar calls, no subjective officiating, no stupid rule changes to help scorers, no referees who think they are part of the show, no bullshit basically.

2002 WCF, 2006 Finals, and a lot of Heat playoff games this year (Philly series and Boston series was definitely a little bit fixed in Miami's advantage). Not to mention the pampering of superstars is absolutely ridiculous. Lebron gets too many FT's and he gets away with a lot of things.

Couldn't agree more

And enough with the suspensions and technical fouls. Let men be men. Players shouldn't get suspended for fighting. If players want to fight, let them.

I'm for replacing Stern. He did a decent enough job at times, but I feel that 10 years for a commissioner is pushing it. Stern has been here much too long.
