Default Is Dirk Nowitzki the greatest european baller by all-time?

Writing in a thread about about Sabonis I came to think about all the great euro-players in history, guys like Gallis, Sabonis, Gasol, Petrovic, Kukoc, Marciulonis and of course Dirk etc...

Is it safe to say that Dirk at the age of 33 can be said to have had the greatest career and to say that he's the best european player by all-time?

I would take Galis and Petrovic over him. Schmidt also, if you wanted to count him.

Schmidt is from Brazil and Brazil is in South America, why would I want to count him when we talk about european players?

Why did OP have to say 'baller'. As if aura and potential and hype of Petrovic and his death are somehow superior to Dirk's longevity and all that he's done. Oh, if only.. If only I wasn't Croat/Serb and could somehow not put all my faith into a basketball player who's been dead for so long.

Oh such a Zionistic New Order Neoliberal thinking, wanting to separate you from your identity. But seriously.

I guess battling with Jordan in the golden era was special. And not at all the same as if Primoz Brezec died from a double chin cancer. But Yugoslavia, man, let it go. Divided and conquered. Nothing left for you now other then porn. Get over it.

Because he was also German and he played for years in Europe. He was a German, that lived in Brazil and played for years in Italy and Spain.

He could be counted as a European, the same way that Manu can for example.

Petro and Dirk are the greatest European players ever.

Petrovic was better than Dirk. It has nothing to do with him dying. Dirk had a better NBA career. But he was not as good of a player.

Drazen could have been the goat if he didnt die

Petrovic died at the age of 28. He pretty much was what he was in the NBA by that time. A 203/3 who was a fringe all-nba player

Dirk by the age of 28, already was a 22/9/2 guy who was a regular 1st/2nd/3rd team all-nba player.

Dirk easily.

Petrovic and especially Sabonis get wildly exaggerated because of all the "what if"......

No, it's Pau Gasol
/sarcasm

Drazen and Sabonis were good players with the potential to be the greatest European ballers of all time, but you can't credit them with things they didn't do, so yeah it's Dirk.

Wrong. Petrovic was better than Dirk. Dirk had a better NBA career, but he was not a better player. The only reason NBA fans think Dirk was better than Petrovic is because they either never saw Petrovic play, or if they did, it was very, very limited.

People from Europe that saw Petrovic play a lot know that he WAS better than Dirk. Frankly, I don't think you could find a single European basketball fan that saw Petrovic play that would say Dirk was as good as him.

WTF are you talking about? Oscar was born in Brazil to brazilian parents. Can most white americans be considered europeans as well because their family came from Europe in the past?

The NBA does not decide who the best European basketball player was. Galis never played in the NBA and he was better than Dirk.

Dirk was the European basketball player that had the best career in the NBA of any European player, so far. He is not, however, the "best European basketball player".
