When KG & Ray expire, Boston will still own their bird rights. The cap space that is freed up will be enough to sign Dwight Howard. After doing so, they can sign KG & Ray Allen to new contracts pushing them over the salary cap.
However, it all depends on what happens with the new CBA. If they somehow add a "Hard Cap" then there is no chance Boston can do any of this.
Under former (
) CBA rules we'd have to renounce Bird rights to have enough space to sign Howard (I think). Still, I could easily see Ray (less so KG) coming back for the vet min.
With Ariza, Paul and Pierce though we'd have roughly $40m on the books so unless the cap was at, say, $57m we wouldnt be able to sign Howard to the (former CBA) max.
I do love that scenario, though. It'd be like LA with Payton and Malone all over again
