This is EXACTLY what I am saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course it is extremely easy to say it is for security reasons.....rich famous american on foreign soil.....not too hard to get that through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And if you think the employer wouldn't buy a villa for them to live in and sell it afterwards to get this done if necessary then you are mistaken.
This stuff is very simple and that's why more guys are lining up to do it.

Plans for Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant to join Nets guard Deron Williams in Turkey have been placed on hold according to a report.

NTV Spor reported Monday that with the Besiktas soccer team tied up in the ongoing match-fixing scandal in Turkey, funds aren't available to bring Bryant across the pond. Besiktas basketball club is said to be looking for an outside backer to import Bryant.

Over the weekend DraftExpress.com reported that the two sides had been discussing contract figures until the scandal forced the talks to be abandoned.

NTV Spor said Bryant had been offered a monthly salary of $500,000 but the Lakers guard is reportedly seeking twice the amount to play abroad.

I would GUESS that this is legitimate. Kobe is 5 times the fan draw that Williams is. There is no rush nor reason why Kobe wouldn't try to negotiate starting high.....and Rob Pelinka is no fool.

All I see is the NBA splits the costs equally with the other groups which would be 33%

NBA lockouts threatens to seriously change the flow of European basketball, and, as "News" unofficially learned, President John Mainini FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann FIBA travel on Monday in the U.S., where he will meet with NBA Commissioner David Stern.

On the agenda will be two issues: pay astronomical insurance for NBA players who want to perform at the EP and the possibility of playing in Europe under the NBA players igovorom during lockouts.

Although the national federation announced that it will greatly pay all necessary insurance to play only complete the EP, it turns out that there are a lot of money, in the case of France and Spain, as many as four million dollars and that it now no one has paid. As a result, turned to FIBA, who agreed to come to help and talk to the NBA.

Under the current arrangement, so far as the third of the insurance paid equally, NBA, FIBA and National Federation. However, since the lockouts, the deal was frozen, and NBA clubs they determine the amount of insurance, which ranges up to three percent the size of the contract.

If there is no agreement, it could happen that none of the NBA players do not play on the EP, and Deron Williams announced relocation and other NBA aces in Europe during lockouts, although some have already signed, leaving only a dead letter.

http://translate.google.com/translat...ika-NBA-i-FIBA

Agents can only receive 2% for a minimum contract and never more than 4% of a players NBA contract if the deal surpasses minimum pay-scale level.

Endorsements deal commissions are separate and not regulated by the NBAPA but negotiated between the player and Agent and have gone up as high as 20%
Some states have limits on commissions by Sports Agents

It SEEMS very reasonable to me......doing very crude, uninformed estimates assuming 20 games in a month (just to make it even) in a 10,000 seat arena with an average ticket price of $75. This equals $750,000 per game and $15 million over 20 games.
Games could/would be fewer, Arena would likely hold many more fans and average ticket price would likely be higher so I feel 15 million is a safe reasonable figure.
This does not even include TV rights nor jersey and merchandise sales.

IMO they should pay the million without blinking.

Sounds like a 3rd party would pay for it

Rumors are running wild that Kobe Bryant has already signed with the club but no reliable sports entities have confirmed a deal. Bryant has reportedly asked for $1 million a month and reports coming from several sports news sources are reporting that Bryant has signed with Besiktas for $800,000.

Oh snap!

Just a reminder to you guys, every one of these contracts has a clause that once the strike is over the player can leave immediately without any penalty or problem.

Kobe's not going to play in Turkey, it's just a bunch of talk. He's got around 83 million left on his current NBA contract He won't risk that for a low level FIBA experience.

What guys have to realize is that very few basketball players sit around during the offseason......much less during a lockout. These guys train and run pickup games all the time. If Kobe doesn't go to Turkey he would be running just as big a risk playing pickup games over here with no pay for it.....besides various insurances would cover any potential losses. Anyone who thinks Kobe or Pelinka would be wasting their time negotiating if they weren't serious are sadly mistaken......they are too big and too busy for that.
