Raef is a 3-point shooting 6'11 stiff who still has THREE years left all at $10+ million. Van Horn was an expiring deal after this year.

The only way LaFrentz is leaving Boston in the near future is if Boston froces a team to take him in a Pierce trade... and even then the salaries in such a deal would damn tough to match.

using your logic, i came up with a couple trades:

nesterovic + udrih for ben... it's better than nothing
darius miles + ha sun jin... it's better than nothing
adonal foyle + cabarkapa... it's better than nothing

back in reality, we might see something like:
Brad Miller + Kevin Martin for Ben Wallace
Brad Miller and Kevin Martin isn't better than Raef and the seventh pick. Did you see how Miller just played this year? Didn't even notice him in the playoffs.

I rather listen to other offers. Rather let Ben walk for nothing if nothing is out there because why EAT a crap contract from Raef just to get the 7th pick? When the following offseason you can use Ben's cap room to splurge into free agency.
You should always listen to other offers, but how great of a offer will you get for a guy that's peaked as a great rebounder and team defender...but offensive nonentity? As for splurging in free agency, who is available out there right now that's a high-impact player? And they've got to act immediately, because next year Billups will be looking to cash in at a near-max level.

KVH was also traded to Philly, NY, and Milwaukee. That's why I brought him up. Bad deals get moved all the time.

so a legit center who averaged 15, 8 and 5 on the year plus a nice young player who would look great coming off the pistons bench is worse than your package?

you're DREAMING.

miller had a bad playoff series vs the spurs? so what. so if he had a great series and still got knocked out, the trade would be fine?

so i guess we're judging guys based on how they perform over the couse of a single 7 game series?... nice to see the logic behind jerome james' recent contract is abundant in other places on the east coast other than Zeke's office.

There is just no way Dumars would take on Raef deal and be persuaded to overlook it because they hold the 7th pick in the draft. And then be bold "something > nothing". I'm sorry man. If you notice most teams in the NBA make deals to clear cap space. Raef makes too much. He isnt a productive beast, he could go down to an injury or be oft injured for a season. Way too many risks you should be wanting to take. How does he improve the team?

Getting the 7th pick in the draft imo is not worth eating his deal. Sorry.

Brad Miller's good offensively but his d is bad and disappearing in the playoffs is always a bad sign. And if you don't like Raef's deal paying Miller over 40 mil over the next 4 seasons shouldn't thrill you either. Kevin Martin is fine sixth man material but a guy like Marcus Williams could be a starting pg for over a decade.

So, deals where one bad contract gets moved never happen? Somehow, I don't buy that. Plus you guys act like I'm proposing a deal for Tim Duncan. This is Ben Wallace. On an offense-first team he'd actually be a misfit. As it stands, he's 32 at the start of next season and will be aiming for a five-year deal. No less than four. The guy's game is 90% athleticism...and what do players lose after they turn 34? Thinking about it, I don't want to be paying near-max to the guy when he turns into Antonio Davis. Nevermind.

And just for the record, Raef played in 80 games in 04/05, and last season made all 82.

i would love brad miller and kevin martin to come to detroit. brad miller is one of the best centers in the west and kevin martin proved alot during the playoffs and i think he can be a great team player and add some speed to the pistons.

Remind me never to read any trade proposals from a celtics fan again until I see one that doesn't make me snort ginger ale through my nose (hurts like a *****!).

Raef + 7 for Ben? Huh? Maybe I really do need glasses, because that trade would be so bad David Stern would veto it. Or would make the NBA create a trade stipulation giving Stern a veto power.

Besides, this trade doesn't even work. You cannot sign-and-trade a player until July. Something tells me the draft won't take that long.

If they agreed to a deal then the team trading for a pick could just have the other team draft for them, genius.

And during that time, Dumars would get slapped in the head by everyone he meets, which makes him not make the dumbest trade he'll ever make, genius.
