Here's an interesting article written by someone's own point of view on Abdul-Rauf's struggles with Tourette's Syndrome.
For a lot of us, we assume Tourette's to be an issue that manifests itself with random obscene outbursts. From my understanding, that is actually a rare outcome of this syndrome. I've been confused about Abdul-Rauf's affliction for years though. I remember seeing a 60 Minutes feature (or a show like that) detailing his struggle but it didn't seem "Tourette's-like". Of course, I'd find out those interesting, spastic tic's are all a part of it, as well as the brain's tendency to set unrealistic goals, often leaving Abdul-Rauf on the basketball court trying to perfect (in the truest sense of the word) his J when all he wanted to do was go home.
