Default I also got a ticket for playing basketball

I just got ticketed last night in Los Angeles, for playing basketball at 1 am.

The park technically closes at midnight, but the lights were still on, so we kept playing.

The police officers took over an hour to issue all of us a ticket. Our shirts were wet, so we got cold pretty quick. One of the officers even inspected my car for possible drugs, etc.

It was pretty messed up.

In the past, the police would just tell us to leave, but these guys actually ticketed us. The whole time, they're like, "Sorry guys, we hate to ticket you playing basketball. We'd rather be doing something else."

If you're sincere about that, you wouldn't issue us a ticket. As a police officer, you get to choose when to warn people, ticket, arrest, etc.

I was feeling pretty crappy, and the police officer was trying to cheer me up, saying, "Hey, if we wanted, we can take you guys to the station, but you guys are being cooperative, so we're not gonna do that."

He also told us this is a misdemeanor, and it'll show up on our records.

I was like, "Ah, are you serious?"

The officer was like, "If we arrest you, we can set bail at $100. So don't worry. This isn't a big deal."

Huh? Not a big deal?

Am I supposed to feel relieved?

Listen, if I just murdered someone, and the cops told me, "Don't worry. This isn't a big deal. Bail will only be $100," then I might breathe a sigh of relief.

But it's F'n basketball.

I imagine if they were to throw me in jail for this, there would be the robber, murderer, drug dealer, rapist, kidnapper, cult leader, and the basketball player.

These threads influenced me to take a look at my own park, to see if any signs were displayed showing its closing time. Sure enough, there's one near each end of the basketball court. Closes at 10pm each night.

I'm sorry for your situation though, man. Sounds surreal.

Honestly ... what kind of ******* writes a ticket for people playing basketball?

Regardless if the park is closed, or it's late at night.

Clearly you guys weren't making trouble. You were dripping wet, playing basketball.

I'd have let you guys go ... hell, I'd say finish your game.

I seriously hope you don't pay that fine.

Wow! Those cops were pricks!
Now whenever you apply for a job, you'll have to put down that you have a misdemeanor on your record.

Yep. You have to put it down bro. It sucks, I don't play basketball at the courts anymore, but if anything I guess it's an eye opener not just for myself but for many here. Sorry about it, it sucks that shit like this happens.
