Default What was the Worst knicks trade of last decade

just off the top of my head, top 3 for me were

1. Trading Lemarcus aldridge and Joakim Noah for Eddy Curry

2. Trading Nene + Marcus Camby for Antonio Mcdyess(whose knee blew up in preseason)

3. Trading Ewing for Howard Eisley and Shandon Anderson instead of letting his contract expire

The 2nd one was in 2002. It was a risky trade to begin with. McDyess put up 21/12/2/1.5 in 2000-01. In 2001-02, he was injured and only played 10 games. Oddly enough, those 10 games in 2001-02 was the last time he averaged double digit points.

I think its Ewing. They moved a mammoth contract set to expire for some scrubs on fat contracts. That deal set the Knicks back at least 6 years in terms of rebuilding.

But that Eddy Curry deal MUST be it. They gave up 2 lottery picks (they gave Chi the ability to exchange 1st rounders in successive years) for guy who played 100 games in 5 years. No one knew NY would end up getting those lottery picks, but c'mon, but some lottery protection or top 10 protection on that mess. That set the Knicks back the same as Ewing

2. is the toughest one because it made the most sense as we were doing it -- had AH and Spree in theri respective primes, needed a good vet inside presence (not a young project) and McD was it.

but then it was also the most damaging. K could've drafted Amare there and run with AH, Spree, Amare, Camby--probably competed with the Nets for a handful of those finals appearances.

instead we spent the next 8 yrs trying to get it back.
-------------------------

The abov being said, Curry was a complete and utter disaster and losing two really good pick for him was terribly painful

Trading Ariza and Penny to Orlando for Steve Francis. Penny was useless and Ariza didn't do anything of note until he got to LA, but acquiring Francis was a HORRIBLE idea with Marbury already on the team.

Not sure that was the worst, though. Unfortunately, there have been WAY too many that deserve consideration.

yeah, all we got was Glen Rice who was pretty much done(didn't make sense with Houston and Sprewell already there), Travis Knight, who was always pretty a much bench scrub and Luc Longley who was also done by that point. Would have been good to see Ewing retire as a Knick and he could still contribute more than Knight and Longley.

I read an article sometime ago that the Knicks making the finals in the 99 season did them in. They had no business being in the finals and they tried "patching" things up with quick fixes which bit them in the ass. Doesn't help that the extensions they gave that team was ridiculous as well.

Charlie Ward / Chris Childs
Allan Houston
Latrell Sprewell
Larry Johnson
Marcus Camby / Kurt Thomas / Chris Dudley

Got to be the weakest finals team of recent memory (Yes I'm talking to you Cleveland). Still one of my favorite teams of the late 90's.

The Ewing trade. Instead of rebuilding, the team decided to go for the quick fix and retool. Even Ewing regrets the trade.

They were a top defensive team, despite being an 8th seed. They gave up the 4th fewest points in the regular season. They also never gave up 100 points in the playoffs. NOT ONE SINGLE GAME.

Miami averaged 79 PPG
Atlanta averaged 76.5 PPG
Indiana averaged 89.2 PPG
San Antonio averaged 84.8 PPG

They were a good team. They just got hot at the right time and played 2004-esque Pistons basketball. When you're hold your opponent to 77-78 PPG the first 2 rounds, it's no surprise they went far.

Those first two were horrible, since Camby was still one of the best centers in the league at that time and a young Nene would have been fantastic, but no. 1 is far and away the worst of the lot.

The Curry trade hurt for so many seasons, including this last summer when the Knicks couldn't land LBJ and Amare and a third star because of his contract.

I remember Isiah defending that one by saying "There's no one in this draft anyone in the league would rather have than Eddy Curry." Even at the time that was incredibly stupid.

Before the Melo deal hmmm

However they got Marbury was a good trade.
How'd they get Keith Van Horn?

It's been a rough decade for NY.

no no no no no...................not so fast there........this is some sloppy work.

First of all the trade had many moving pieces besides the picks.....but ok let's ignore that.

Joakim Noah did go the Bulls from the Knicks pick. That is true. What you DIDN'T include was the Knicks got the Bulls pick. It was a SWAP of picks.

And who did the Knicks pick with that swap?............Wilson Chandler

Also Knicks didn't "trade" aldridge and noah. they were picks. they just happen to work out.

However, if you are gonna play that draft pick game, it's Aldridge and Noah for Curry AND WILSON CHANDLER!!!!
