Default Better team historically - 88-91 Pistons or 08-11 Lakers?

Lots of similarities here:

Both teams won back to back
Both teams lost in the finals the year before they won it all
Both teams beat the team they lost to previously as part of their two peat (Detroit beat LA in 89 and LA beat Boston in 10)
Both teams got swept the year after their two-peat to the eventual champions (Detroit to Chicago and LA to Dallas)
Differences - Pistons took the Lakers in 88 to a close game 7 in the finals while LA got blown out by almost 40 pts in 08 in game 6.
La got swept in the 2nd round vs. Detroit getting swept in the ECF in 91.

This is a tough one I might have to go with detroit... paus soft ass couldnt handle the bad boy pistons basically kobe would be all by himself... I'm thinkin if it were a series then detroit 4-2

No, I'm not talking about Michael and the Bulls if you're saying GOAT. I'm talking about the Pistons vs. Lakers.

Pistons.

Pretty sure Dumars could bother Kobe like he did Jordan.
Zeke with torch Fisher
Dantlet/Aguirre were big like Artest, he wouldn'y muscle them around.
Laimbeer on Pau, give me Bill.
Sally would probab;y strat on Bynum

I think you guys are thinking about which team would beat the other. I mean 50 years from now - which team would get the nod as being the better team? 88-91 Detroit or 08-11 Lakers?

Lakers will be remembered the best out of the 2 teams.

After all the Lakers got the GOAT.

The Pistons easily. They beat Bird, Magic and Larry to win titles.

bad boy pistons were an underrated team despite having won back to back. they were the underdogs most of the time in the finals if i can recall. they might have overachieved their talent because they played a style in a time where they became the trendsetter 90s style hard nosed defense. (knicks tried to emulate their style) 3 hall of famers on that team.

08-11 lakers on the other hand were always overrated and always the favored team in their finals matchups. they had and still currently have the best front court in the league.

historically, bad boy pistons easily

I think Detroit. They were better than their results would show - the '88 Pistons were about as close as you can get to winning it all without actually doing so while the '08 Lakers weren't as good as Boston (not with Bynum/Ariza out anyway). I believe the '91 Pistons had injuries to Isiah and Laimbeer as well.

Would be fun to see Gasol go against that front line of Rodman/Laimbeer/Mahorn, though.

The Pistons might be remembered more as the better historical team. They were one of the best of the 80s, and the 80s had legendary teams.

The Lakers are a good team with potential all around, but people will probably remember Kobe more so than how good the team was in comparison to the Pistons in the 80s maybe. But I dunno.
