Any other boneheaded shit people were saying at the beginning of the season? Weren't people basically saying that an old team like the Spurs would also be dead this season?

I can see where Simmons came from - Kobe/Pau/Bynum haven't suffered any major injuries (knock on wood) and he thought at least one would miss significant time. Plus, he thought the condensed schedule would wreak havoc on them. The other guy nailed the thought that the Lakers 4th best player wasn't on the team yet

A lot of wacky Clippers predictions were made - jumping the gun, similar to the Heat preds made last year. The perennial "Spurs are done" predictions were made and were still really dumb - those guys find diamonds in the rough all the time, maximize their talent, and their scouts + coaching are top notch. Their moves are almost always good (Hill for Leonard, finding Danny Green, trading RJ for Jax...) A lot of people thought Minny would still suck and they didn't.

Spurs haven't been very relevent since they won the title in '07. They've been kind of a gimmick team since Duncan has declined so much and they rely on a bunch of moneyball wunderkids for the regular season but it doesn't translate to the playoffs since they have little to no experience and depth doesn't help in the playoffs since teams will play their top 3 guys heavy minutes. And their defense has fallen off a cliff compared to their title years.

2011 - Upset in first round by the Grizz (epic choke job, 1 seed vs. 8).
2010 - Swept in the second round by the Suns, who they used to beat like a red headed stepchild.
2009 - Lost in the first round 4-1 to the Mavs.
2008 - Lose 4-1 in WCF to LA, not a close series.

If they were going to win another title though this would be the year to do it.
