The NFL's Sunday Ticket package, heretofore only available through DirecTV (in this country at least), has signed on for availability through the Playstation Network.
The cost is the same I believe. 340 bucks for the season. All games will be available in full HD.
This is the kind of medium change I think we could be seeing in how our entertainment is purchased. This to me is sort of the next step to Netflix streaming.
I guess nobody buys the Sunday ticket package. That's the rate through DirecTV too.
My big wonder is are they promoting this to the right audience. The kids playing games can't afford it. It's probably their fathers, or more likely even, single guys in their late 20s or 30s who may not be into gaming who would want this, but are they gonna find out about it? I felt similarly about the start of streaming netflix through there. Adult couples with young kids would probably appreciate the service, but the ones I know in that profile have no idea it's available. And without the advertising, it seems inaccessible to them.
I think it's something that could work down the line, assuming nobody else besides DirectTV offers the service. Right now DirectTV is offering FREE NFL package for new customers though...
my parents have direct TV (they live five blocks away from me). My sisters (like a mile away) have it too. When it rains hard, OFF. When it snows, really OFF. I jsut can't take that shit, cheaper as it is.
I am also trying to figure out if you can move the service. So if the service runs to your PSN Profile, can you log out at home, go to a buddy's place, and log on on his Playstation, and watch over there.
Because I gotta say that'd be a huge selling point for us. We spend every Sunday at one guys place. He's got two young kids. And they and his wife love it. We cook and bring food over, and it's about the closest thing to a holy day as we celebrate. But as the season rolls on, there's plenty of times that they, or even us, could use a day off. My house is a better arangement, I have a ranch with the big living room, and I have the best TV. And there are times when his kids may be sick, or whatever. But we're stuck, we have to go where the satellite goes. If you could jump from Playstation to Playstation, that would be huge. But again, I have seen nothing about this other than this one article.
