I'm not sure what they're doing this year, haven't seen them play, but last year Aso gave up less yards and was targets like half as much as Revis. Quarterbacks were either looking his way and he covered them up so the QB had to go away from him, or the QB just didn't look his way ever..... it's why he wasn't targeted a lot.

Only slight problem Aso had was giving up touchdowns, but it's not like he gave up a lot. Just four...but it pales in comparison to the one Revis gave up.

From studying Aso last year, he's dominant. He's easily one of the best corners in the league. Not being better than Revis doesn't make you exposed, it just makes you like everyone else.

right, he has been exposed as being like everyone else, before that he was just as good or on the same level, this thread IS REVIS VS. NNAMDI

before nnamdi went to Philly it was Revis and nnamdi 1a and 1b...even you were sold on it, read your post on the first page...

Darrelle Revis is arguably (I think he is but I'll leave it open for discussion) the best bump and run CB in the league. Still, people gotta stop pretending that Darrelle Revis doesn't play 70+% of downs with bracket coverage help.

Nnamdi did get exposed. I remember ppl talking the guy up like he was on Revis' level when he's clearly not. An elite corner but big gap btwn him and Revis

According to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, CB Nnamdi Asomugha has been a "mixed bag" through one week of 49ers camp.
The comments don't sound promising. "He's had some good days out here and some days when we weren't sure if he'd be able to still have it," Fangio said. "I think we're kind of in between on him. ... Hopefully, he'll still be able to have some gas left in his tank to go out there and play like he did prior to going to Philadelphia. So I think the jury is still out there." Asomugha's one-year contract includes zero guaranteed money. He's very much competing for a roster spot.

Wow he fell off quick. Fighting for nickle spot.

I honestly think he was NEVER elite, we were all duped by no one throwing at him in Oakland.

Hard to argue his performance in Oakland even when thrown to him he shut the opposition down. Now? He's on a rapid decline. Which isn't surprising given his age. He was never a fast player. Just physical at LOS (bump n run).

actually I remember his metrics being really bad in Oakland when thrown at, the problem was that for most lists there was a 50 target limit that Nnamdi never got while in Oakland so he was never compared.

also, the guy is only 32 years old...Carlos Rodgers, the 49ers starting CB and All-Pro, is also just 32 years old

I can't see Aso being a nickle/slot corner. If he's going to play, he's best suited for outside corner - he's not quick enough to stop slot corners who have two-way go's consistently.

32 is over 30. I dont know how Carlos Rodgers age factors into anything.

As far as the metrics I just know there were guys on footballfutures who tracked him in Oakland and the numbers looked shut down to me given the instances he was thrown at.

I'm not going to defend the guy at this point in his career. He was a FA bust.

yeah well that is probably why he is on the bubble...there are young guys in camp busting ass for a nickle spot

I wouldn't be shocked if Nnamdi didn't make the team

The problem is those Oakland teams were the last and only team that would allow Nnamdi to play nothing but man while lining up exclusively on one side of the field. He just isn't a good zone guy.

Nnamdi about done as a football player

Nnamdi Asomugha: Nnamdi Asomugha could be cut by 49ers?
Quote:
Nnamdi Asomugha - DB - SF - Oct. 25 - 9:27 am et
With CB Eric Wright (reserve/NFI) nearing a return, 49ers CB Nnamdi Asomugha might be on the chopping block.
Wright was cleared to resume practicing Thursday and GM Trent Baalke said he'll be activated at some point ahead of Week 10. The 49ers have a Week 9 bye. Asomugha has been a healthy scratch the past three games and is the No. 5 corner. He's near the bottom of Pro Football Focus' corner ratings. Oct. 25
