Default what if this rule change were to happen...

get rid of pass interference...it doesn't exist anymore

this would change the game as we know it DRASTICALLY yes but it might be for the better...the game is so much about passing now, it would change that completely.

you could still have all the helmet to helmet rules in place, as well as hitting a defenseless man, and all the safety rules in place, but when it comes to just gabbing arms and hands or even pushing, etc...defenders are allowed to do it.

this would mean that in order to complete a pass, the WR has to actually break away from the DBs...it would get rid of questionable flags for PI...it would make the refs less of a game changer.

I know it will never happen...just bored and thinking about it

This would be terrible for the game. Whoever is covering the receiver would just tackle the guy while the ball is in the air.

So if Dez Bryant beats an Eagles DB downfield only that Eagles DB trips, pulls on or interferes with a TD you wouldnt have any issue with it? Somehow I dont buy that. Let no PI happen to a team you root for and fans will hate the no call. Because as a DB you can take advantage of this rule bigtime.

right exactly as long as not defensless, the WR would have to actually break away completely from the DB...catch the ball where the DB is not located

I'm not sure of this, but I am just guessing that is how it started out when forward passing was introduced

"tripping" would still be illegal...

if Dez really "beats" him downfield, then the DB wouldn't be able to do anything to Dez...Dez will have burned him and he is out in the open

For instance, this catch would still happen, because the DB was burned completely, the DB couldn't interfere even if he wanted to.

highlights like this dont happen.

Dumb rule change suggestion. Nnamdi would never be beat because all he would do is grab, hold once beat.

how can he hold "once beat" ?...if he is beat then he isn't near to hold

I wasn't even suggesting that "holding" be legal anyway...that is a different penalty all together...

even if holding was legal though, it would be dangerous, just like pressing is dangerous....because if the WR gets loose then you are not in motion with him at all any more...

in that Calvin highlight you posted, the DB would be able to grab the WR's arms if he wanted...so most lob passes like that would no longer be completed...unless the WR just really out muscles the DB for the ball

Obviously in your world getting beat is a different meaning than mine. So I wont even go there with you just because you're an annoying d!ckhead.

How is holding a different penalty altogether? Its apart of pass inteference when you tell me the only way Wrs can now catch passes is to get seperation from DBs and more than likely significantly so a DB cant create any physical contact to disrupt the f*cking catch?

You just said in the Megatron highlight the DB could hold his arms to deny that play from being a TD. Thats holding idiot.

Your rule is so damn stupid you cant even argue the various scenarios people have with it. Its like you're improvising this shyt as you type. Then again you did say in the OP you're bored and thought of this stupid idea so eh.

Shame on me for actually thinking you gave this much thought. My bad.

no, hitting a WR's arms while the ball is in air would be called a PI

wrapping them up so they can't move is HOLDING...with or without the ball being thrown

they ARE different penalties, look it up yourself if you want...

if holding was legal, then all DBs would just tackle the WRs and pin them down on the ground at the LOS right when the ball is snapped

I'm not improvising anything...YET

i said in the OP that all other penalties (such as holding, tripping, helmet to helmet, defensless WR, etc etc etc) would still be the same...

the only thing that would be different is the PI part

all of your supposed "scenarios" involve other penalties

Dude what are you babbling about? I'm guessing along with boredom came beer? Why do you suggest holding to be what you describe? Thats flat out retarded and ridiculous. Holding implies what you just said could HAPPEN according to your new rule suggest via the MEGATRON LINK POSTED.

You clearly said the DB could HOLD HIS ARMS which is HOLDING. What you described as holding sounds like f*cking wrestling, MMA. I'm talkin a DB can simply hold a WR to disrupt them from making a catch.

Quote:

Your words. And this is what I mean by DBs taking advantage. You say grab, I say hold. Not much difference but I'm sure you will throw more useless text my way how there is.

in the Calvin highlight he could hit or grab his arms in air, while the ball is on it's way...something that would have resulted in a PI...not in a holding call

an example of holding would be the DB tackling Calvin before before the ball is even thrown...that would get a holding flag

i think you need to look up the rules and read the difference between defensive holding and pass interference...
