So Calathes is really their starting PG? And you swear this league is better than the NBA?
Someone here claimed the Wolves would own these teams........
Calathes sure the hell isn't very good at all, but is probably 100 times better than Ricky Rubio is. The same Ricky Rubio that is the starting point guard in the NBA.
Besides, European teams go by minutes played, not by starter/bench. Unlike the NBA, most European teams don't have such caste systems.
Calathes is like the 5th-6th best guard on the team.

Ricky Rubio hasn't played in one single NBA game so why would you type this lie?
^^ all he does is lie lol. i haven't been on this board and took a little time to start posting and he just posts nonsense and bs quotes with a real source 90% of the time
Joventut is barely a mid level of European basketball. What him and Fernandez did there was irrelevant. NBA fans never seemed able to grasp that.
The thing is, Barcelona did absolutely nothing to help the development of Rubio's game. They just used him as a player who had the potential to become a great player, but if that didn't work out, he would always be a solid player who could find the open man at any time and direct the offense when necessary. They didn't care that he wasn't shooting or scoring well, and they didn't do anything to try to improve it. They were satisfied with his passing ability and his ability to direct the offense.
Typical Euroleague, someone says Calathes starts in the Euroleague shows how weak the talent is (which is a very true point) and he instantly has to say he sucks and is one of the worst players. Really so any American or NBA player instantly sucks? What about Anthony Parker?

Barca was more patient and gave Rubio more chances than any Euroleague team ever would have. They won games despite him. He would never in a million years get the same chances he got in any other Euroleague club with how awful he played.
He was the 4th best point guard on his team the last two years and still managed to play about 23 minutes a game in a huge club like Barca.
If he would have been playing for a (by NBA standards) semi demanding coach like Obradovic he would have been barely playing at all. If he would have been playing for a hard ass old school type (by NBA standards) coach like Ivanovic, he would have been cut from the team very quickly.
VERY few coaches in Euroleague would have ever put up with Rubio's awful play like Pascual did. And yet, people in the US are blaming him for "not developing Rubio". The truth is that he would not have even been playing on most Euroleague teams and certainly on big Euroleague teams. Hell, on a team like CSKA he would have played like that for 2 weeks and would have been sent on loan for 2 years to some small domestic club.
Barca and their coaching staff was extremely patient and lenient with Rubio. He will be lucky for sure if Adelman is anywhere near as patient with him.

Calathes is the 5th to 6th best guard on Panathinaikos. This is a fact. Or are you actually trying to argue that a guy that averaged 3-5 points a game in 15 minutes the last 2 years is their lead guard?
You take NBA only fan delusion to a whole new level.
Once again....since you seem very slow, Euroleague does not have "starters" and "bench". It is not a caste system like the NBA. You can be the league MVP and come off the bench. It does NOT work like that NBA where there is a caste system.
There is no such thing as a "starter"/"bench" player.
Once again, you talk trash without even knowing what the hell you are even talking about.
Perfect example is Rubio. The worst of the 12 players on Barca's roster and was usually a "starter". In fact, most European teams usually like to bring at least some of the best players off the bench. How Manu is used by the Spurs is TYPICAL and COMMON place in Euroleague.
They don't believe in the stupid "this is a starter", "this is a bench player" like the NBA does. Players are expected to be used however the coach wants to use them. Even a league MVP or playoff MVP would be expected to come off the bench and it is done all the time.

Typical person that gets stoned by him once. First thing he says when he disagrees with something he says is Anthony Parker. Why don't you learn the Euro game is different than the NBA game?
