Default Terrell Brandon: The Best Point Guard in the NBA?

I think everyone remembers this magazine cover. I'm no TB hatter, I liked him but fo' real. How much did Cleveland pay SI them to put that out?

He was goin' into his second All-Star campaign, the game was in Cleveland.

Now, this was an NBA that included John Stockton, Gary Payton, Penny and Tim Hardaway, Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson. Hell, Rob Strickland was up their too. What was goin' on when this mag hit the streets? How would ISH have handled this almost 15 seasons ago? How did the public handle this?

Was their ever any Tom Gugliotta is the best power forward in the game magazine covers at the time?

Well, let's say SI wanted him on the cover.
What would they write if not that? Terrel Brandon: a good NBA player? Who would buy that?

It's kinda like putting Westbrook as the best PG in a modern cover. Controversial, but not as far fetched as say, placing a guy like Rudy Gay as the best SF.

The dude did put up some really great numbers the year before (19-3-7-2 on 47/39/89 with a ridiculous 1.9 TOPG, also 25 PER). KJ was on a team that won 41 games WITH Barkley, Tim Hardaway played only 28 games that year. Penny, Stockton, Payton - sure I'd take them over TB.

I think it was more hype than anything. Maybe since the league was so devoid of great point guards, they wanted to stir the pot a bit.

Terrell Brandon's 1995-96 PER: 25.2

Derrick Rose's 2010-11 PER: 23.5

With PER that high, it's not really strange that he's considered (one of) the best PG.

this a commercial magazine, no surprise big title could make you laugh.
i remeber this cover and the article, the writer presented a list of some elements with a note which were totally oriented to put Brandon on top.

but he was a great PG, very smart.

Maaan TB was that dude. He was money with the mid-range jumper, great leader, and not a nproblem child off the court. Then after that S.I. Cover, he's traded to Milwaukee.
