But if they went to 47%, that would be $4.17 million/yr, meaning almost $900K. I think thats alot to give up, not to mention all the system changes as well. Going 50/50 means they're losing $622K per player. I don't know. Sounds steep but maybe more reasonable. Can't really blame the players for not taking that especially with all the other provisions as well.
When you put it like that, it doesn't seem too bad. The problem is we don't know what the actual offer was, was it a legit 50-50 because different sites have different info.

Ken Berger of CBSsports says that in actuality the sides are VERY close. Maybe only 2 percentage points apart. It would be ridiculous to miss regular season games over that........

Good luck ever making half of league revenues again players union, the percentage points go nowhere but down now.

I heard the owners only went up to 47%.

50% was discussed, Hunter even said so before Stern mentioned it. 49% was the actual offer on paper

found this on the Ken Berger article

Quote:
The league's offer, according to three people familiar with it, came in a range of 49-51 -- with 49 percent guaranteed and a cap of 51 percent, the sources said.

Stern told the players and Kessler that he was bringing this proposal to his owners in an attempt to sell it, making no bones about the fact that he would. In fact, Stern said in the news conference, he did sell it. The owners were prepared to sign off on this 49-51 percent band, and with many of the most polarizing system issues resolved, the framework of a deal was in sight.

While the owners were caucusing, a member of the players' group returned with a counterproposal -- approximately 52 percent of BRI for the players with no additional expenses deducted. The players' counterproposal followed the format presented by the owners -- a 51-53 percent band with 51 percent guaranteed and a cap of 53. League officials rejected the offer, the sources said.

While i have not been blessed to make millions in the NBA, I think a lot of fans should understand how much players really bring in after taxes and agent fees.

We shouldnt talk about Celtics,KObe,LEbron,etc... guys in the NBA that make 10 plus mill a year can afford to Lock out, alot of them live off their endorsements, and business dealings.

Think for a second...Honestly,if you were blessed with an ability to be an NBA player you would want the best deal for you. Media and Stern want everyone to think NBA players are selfish and the bad guys. IF the owners could get away with building Cyborg basketball players and not paying a fee to them, they would cut Kobe,Lebron, in a HEART beat. A business is supposed to maximize profits and spend as little as possible doing it.

Derek Fisher,Roger Mason, and Ray Allen are the most knowledgable NBA players of the system with CBA(Lebron,Wade are a crock because they havent been in the league long enough to expierence it) A 10 year agreement is a long time. They are simply watching out for the Blake Griffins,Kyrie Irving,John Walls who will be star players the next 10 years.

7 year agreement with a union option for 10.

You don't feel the owners have a right to protect their interests? The players come and go but the owners are in it for the long run, players might be thinking the next few years owners are thinking of the league as a whole and looking 20 years down the road and where their investment will be then.

Players and owners each have the right to try an affect the best deal they can for their groups but lets not pretend this is greedy owners vs players only looking out for the interest of the players of tomorrow.

No, no, no, not this time. No more meetin's, no more discussions, no more tricks.

The answer is 50-50. 49 floor, 51 ceiling. No hard cap, no roll-backs, maybe an amnesty (off the cap but player still paid), Indy gives D.West 5 yrs. $50 mill and lets start the season.

I think I read somewhere that the 50-50 split is contingent on the owners taking an extra $350 million off the top to cover expenses, so it really is more like 47% for the players.

So some of the players are so mad at the agents for pushing to decertify the agents are on a conference call with players trying to diffuse the situation. Mark Stein is tweeting Rip Hamilton threatened to leave Leon Rose and take players with him if he didn't remove himself from the group of agents pushing for decertification

Not every player in the nba has that option to play overseas, there aren't many kobe's, lebron's, howard's. oversea teams are probably not looking to sign players like luke walton. everyone is just being selfish rich bastards. Any money is better than none. Reality has finally hit that hard times is hitting sports and other celebrities. And anyone that compares an nba player taking a pay cut to a regular hard working citizen is retarded.

This is the truth. The players were clearly insulted by the owners proposal. When it happened, the players came back and basically said, how bout 53% and no money off the top at all. Can't say I really blame them. It seems like the owners are stalling on purpose (aka want the players to lose money and settle at a lower %).
