Default Let's clear something up about Kendrick Perkins

AKA Scrubdrick Scrubkins.

Somewhere along the way he got a reputation as a great defensive center.

THIS IS FALSE

He is actually rather useless defensively, he gets posterized all the time and his man defense is average as well.

He is below average on the boards

He is useless on offense.

HE IS BASICALLY ERIC DAMPIER. Just because he was carried to a title by 3 future HOFers he suddenly has a reputation as a great defensive presence. HE ISN'T PEOPLE. HE'S A SCRUB.

Perk fit in perfectly in Boston with the big 4; Doc was able to maximize his strengths while minimizing his shortcomings. And playing next to KG helped a lot.

OKC doesn't afford him those luxuries, and the results will speak for themselves.

He is a serviceable center and would make an ideal backup center on a contender. But as a starter......I dunno.

That said, he's better than Dampier.

Yeah, he needs a great defensive 4 next to him and 3 good scorers on the team to maximise his usefulness.

If only he was next to someone like Ibaka, and had 3 potential 20ppg+ scorers on his team.

(!)

I think he'll do fine in OKC. He's easily the best Dwight stopper in the league, and what other Centres are worth worrying much about? Bynum won't be on a contender and Bogut needs to show a lot more promise. And oh yeah, they have Kevin freaking Durant and Ibaka and Harden who's looking great and Westbrook who can either sort himself out or be shipped out for someone with less ego and another decent big. His contract is too expensive but apart from that, great fir in OKC.

Boston defense to me has always been Paul Pierce(2nd smartest defender) guides perimeter player to pick up their dribble toward KG with Perk as a wall.

Perk is extremely serviceable but hes no game changer. Man to Man post defense, hes great at but Dwight realized hes a freak athlete and can face him up.

He's good against the bigger, more lumbering and less skilled PFs/Cs like bynum and dwight howard, but the Dallas series was a nightmare for him because Chandler was far too athletic for him as well as Dirk, plus he can't guard too far from the basket.

It's pretty obvious what perk will give you. On offense, the man is a one man double screen, and knows his role. Will pick up his 8-10 points a game on tips, putbacks, the odd screen and roll.

Defensively, he's one of the top man to man interior defenders in the league. He's one of the few centers who can match up Dwight without calling for the double team. Not an elite help defender, but is a tough sob, and is good for a hard foul or two.

Put him next to Westbrook, Harden, Durant and Serge, and he fits in perfectly. Just give the guy a chance to settle in.

Also I am not sure why he starts over Collison. Collison is better than both him and Ibaka.

Perk is good at defending centers who don't have the leg strength to back him up and the post moves to score over him. He is also good at patrolling the paint. Aside from those qualities, he has mediocre to below average skills.

He can set a hard pick, but is often caught with an offensive foul due to his reputation of slow feet. He can dunk, but not a great leaper and he has to wind up. Bring him outside of the paint and he'll be a defensive liability to more perimeter oriented big men and pick and roll situations.

With these in mind, he'll be great fit in OKC. He can bring some defensive leadership to the team. He can patrol the paint while Ibaka will provide help defense. The good thing is that OKC can mask his offensive deficiencies by limiting him the ball. They already have 4 guys who are able scorers. He won't have as many easy baskets as he did when he played with Rondo.
