Doesn't mean its a bad deal imo. That would just mean they drafted poorly but it doesn't mean they didn't get great value at the time of the trade.

Kinda like the deal Denver got for Cutler. Great value with the picks they received but they just mismanaged them and drafted poorly.

Browns get 2 first round picks this year and its some pretty good receivers coming out. Not to mention they got 3 productive players just last draft. Its a win.

what if they gave up the greatest WR to ever play the game?

I think it is impossible to grade this trade without seeing what becomes of the pieces...

you can't just say "5 is more than 1, so they did awesome!"

I echo the same sentiments of JailBlazers.

They got great value for that 5th pick. They're in rebuild mode, and you need to stockpile young talent and see it come to fruition.

If the Browns whiff on the picks, that's on them...the deal itself it sound, doesn't matter what Julio becomes. If the Browns draft right with those extra picks they are going to obtain key pieces to a championship caliber squad. I believe they already have their foundation up front with Phil Taylor for the next numerous years via the trade with the Falcons, which is as good a start as any aside from QB.

If the Browns whiff on those picks and Julio becomes HOF talent then everyone, including Browns fans, will view it as a mistake and a great player they let get by them.

the 49ers traded its first two picks for New England's first-round choice, the 16th selection overall (the teams also swapped third-round picks as part of the deal), and selected Rice before, as some report, the Cowboys were intending to pick him.

AWESOME DEAL FOR THE PATS!!!...2 picks >>> 1 pick!!!

What's more likely, Julio being like Jerry Rice or the Browns whiffing on all picks (already a good player in Phil Taylor with one of them)?

I think it is likely that Jones could be a multiple probowl talent and that the Browns only get one decent player from those 5 picks that is not equal to Jones...

obviously going on to be Rice is extremely unlikely, but just using that to show it doesn't make the trade good just because they got more picks...the Browns could certainly use a probowl WR to build around.

What makes you think none of those picks will pan out? Holmgren has done great so far for the Browns in the draft.

Oh I think it is likely the picks could also pan out, I don't even know much about all the picks...and that the trade could be great for the Browns...just saying that it is too early to declare that as fact this early! We need to see what happens first IMO....obviously it is possible Jones could prove to be of greater value than the picks do.

You don't get it, do you?

The value of these future picks is already KNOWN. 1st round picks are heavily valued, and since this is a talented draft - even more value there.

And a 4th rounder, which is nothing to sneeze at - lots of important players come from the 4th round.

The point is, the value is already there. Now it's up to the Browns to do their home work and pick the guy they feel will be a core player for them. If those picks bust, it's not because they didn't make a great deal - it's because they suck at scouting.

they could suck at scouting passing on Jones too...you don't have to view the trade's success in that way Carbine...if that is the case then ALWAYS: more picks > less picks....(just up to the scouts to make the most of those picks if they don't it is their fault regardless of the player they passed)

obvioulsy the Atlanta scouts felt differently than that Simple Jack way of looking at it...they felt Jones was worth it, and they could be right!

Was the Pat's trading away the rights to Rice good for them Carbine?...did they do the right thing or do they wish they could take it back?

They got more picks...I guess thier scouts just messed up on those picks by not selecting all the players that were better than Rice.

Default Re: Better Career: Julio Jones or AJ Green?

Classic example of how primetime is a dumbass.

Quote:
draft picks: 1st- (27th overall), second- (59th) and fourth-round (124th) picks this year
first- and fourth-round picks in 2012.

http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

6th pick holds a value of 1600pts

27th pick was worth 800pts
59th pick was worth 310pts
124th pick was worth 48pts

= 1,158pts

The difference is 442pts. The 32nd pick in the first rd of the NFL draft is worth 590pts. The last pick in the 4th rd is worth 44pts So do the math.

Lets say 2012 first and 4th rd picks are the last picks. 590 + 44 = 634pts

1,158pts (2011) + 634pts (2012) = 1,792pts

Recap 6th pick in the draft is worth 1600pts. Cleveland gained 1,792pts.

Browns got a good deal for the 6th pick in the draft. Fact, not fiction. Unless you dont care for the chart every NFL team uses when doing draft day trades.

Making draft day trades for picks is based on value. And later down the road both teams can look back and see how much they made out on the value they recieved in a trade.

So why sit there and say Julio Jones could be the greatest WR of all time and every pick for the Browns doesnt pan out? Thats typical primetime dope logic there. My turn, Julio Jones could be decent and Phil Taylor and whatever player Clev drafts in 2012 via first rd thanks to Atlanta could end up dominating players.

Who is going to speculate the future? You because you want to argue something stupid being as tho you are...stupid? The fact not opinion like you are throwing out, the fact remains Cleveland got good value for the 6th pick.

So suck on that.

What Browns do with the value of the 5 for 1 trade? Its ON THEM. But they got more than enough value for the 6th pick.

Sidenote: Darren Mcfadden could be as good or better than Adrian Peterson. He has the potential.

primetime "No he doesnt. Peterson = HOF lock. Mcfadden can never be as good as Peterson. Its foolish to say"

But its not foolish of you to say Julio Jones could end up the greatest WR of all time. Ok.

I love how you pull these outraegeous examples when you want to make a point. How about you flush your point down the toilet next time. Courtesy flush please?

you're right GOBB, the Browns got more fictional draft points than the Falcons so no matter what the Browns won that trade and the Falcons lost

it is IMPOSSIBLE for the Browns to regret the trade right?...that could NEVER happen right?

and awesome you brought the Peterson > McFadden debate in here...you forgot Culpepper sucking though idiot, what were you thinking?
