He's better than any of those following QBs

Rivers' numbers aren't that much better than Eli's, and Rivers has had much better weapons to throw to for most of his career.

He's been in the league for 6 years now and hasn't sniffed the Super Bowl yet, despite the fact that they have one of the top defenses in the league statistically every year, and offense. He had Tomlinson and Merriman who were All-Pro players at the time, and couldn't get it done.

Any of those guys after Roethisberger could make a case for #6 when you think about it. I put Eli because he actually won a Super Bowl.
Rivers has made it to the AFC title game, I don't think Romo, Ryan or Flacco been there yet.

And Vick's only claim to fame on the field was beating the Packers in Lambough Field when he was a Falcon.

Flacco made it to the AFC Championship game twice. I'll give you that Rivers made it farther than Ryan, and Romo. But there comes to a point when it doesn't matter if you make it to the Divisional Round or the AFC Championship Game if you go to the playoffs every year.

I'm not denying that Rivers is good, but I don't consider him elite like Brady, Rodgers, Peyton, or Ben.

this. Rings are a terrible argument to make. Teams win it all. 11 players on both sides of the ball. If the Giants pass rush didn't rape Brady, Manning woulda been a "choker". If Big Ben led another game winner in the SB last year, Rodgers would be called a "choker" without even doing anything to choke.

People love Rivers because he's put up great stats generally, and a good fantasy player.

Sure you could make an argument, but you'd be wrong.

Oh, and in Joe Flacco's "wins" in the playoffs:

9/23 135
11/22 161 1/0
4/10 34 0/1
25/34 265 2/0

Man, Flacco really helped his team to those wins amirite?

We'll agree to disagree then since our arguing at each other are both going up against a brick wall and we both think we're right, but remember that Rivers has had good supporting casts in the past too. I don't think last years supporting cast was that good for Rivers.

I just looked Rivers postseason games, sure he choked against the Jets a couple of years ago but he's also defeated Peyton twice. He lost to the 2006 & 2007 Pats, and 2009 Steelers.

Losing to a would-be Super Bowl champion and pretty much everybody lost to the 2007 Pats that wasn't the Giants, wouldn't call it choking as much. He put up great numbers against the 2009 Steelers by the way.

We already know about his regular season number but as for as the postseason is concern, he's just getting beat but much superior teams.

Look at the players he has had on offense. A top 5 all time running back who is the second best receiver out of the backfield all time, one of the greatest tight ends ever, excellent receivers, and an offensive minded coach.

Rivers is a great quarterback. Level below the top tier. He's having a tough stretch, but everyone goes through those spells. He'll turn it around.

Just like using rings is a bad way to judge quarterbacks, using stats without perspective is a bad way to judge quarterbacks too.

Through his first 5 full seasons, Philip Rivers has better numbers than Joe Montana in his first 5 seasons, so I guess he must be better than him too
