Good. They need to sign him and then build around him. They've got Noah, Boozer and Deng all signed up now. If the Bulls can't do a trade for Dwight Howard by sending Noah & Taj then I'd also like to see Taj be signed soon as well.

Noah
Taj
Deng
?
Rose

That team has the chance to compete for many seasons if they could find the right shooting guard.

I'm sure signing D-Rose quickly won't be a problem. It's kind of a no brainer report indeed. Show him the money.

Rose should get what he can, I just hope the Bulls use some strategy to squeeze in enough under the cap before they are stuck in luxury land for the next 6+ years.

That's over already. Noah's extension kicked in so we are officially over the cap.

This year, yes. But not next season. If Rose is committed to the Bulls and we have some form of agreement, he'll be a RFA, meaning the Bulls can match whatever, anyways, as well as pay the most to Rose. So we could wait because Rose wont get the money this year anyways, use that 6million in cap space, sign someone, then Bird Rose.

It's just an option that is getting overlooked. Whatever happens in this FA period will dictate everything, but the way the Bulls are going after players, makes it seem like we could very well not make any moves that bear more than a 1 year contract.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean? I don't think Rose' extension would count towards the MLE if that's what you mean.

We are under the cap by 6 mil next season, re-read my post. It will make more sense now.

We have 65 million on the books this season... unless the salary cap figure changed in the new CBA we're above the cap.

Okay, let's try this again. Like I said twice, next season, the Bulls will have cap space. Rose will be a RFA, he is pretty much on the Bulls for two seasons no matter what, and this season he is getting paid the same no matter what extension is signed. This season, we are at 63.5 million(hoopshpe salaries don't reflect Jimmy Butler yet), 4.5 million over the cap. We can use the bird this year or next. We have Lucas, who is totally non-guaranteed for this year, which is almost another 1 million we can rip out if need be, although it's a bit useless. We can also sign a player to a 1 year MLE deal this year, and change direction next year for whatever spot we want to fill(who knows.)

Next season, we would be under the cap before signing Rose. We could be under the cap by $6-8 million. With all of these teams trying hard to lock up their bird-able players THIS year, that means we will have a HUGE advantage next year by waiting to lock Rose up. Simply because most teams wont have cap space next season, we will have some. We can sign a player next year, extend current players, whatever, we have options. After all of that, we still have the bird rights to sign Rose to a max contract, more than any team in the league. It doesn't hurt Rose, because Rose wont see that money this season if we did the extension this year.

capiche?

Even if we don't extend Rose, he still has a QO of 9 million... I understand what you're saying but the numbers just don't add up. Aside from that, if we don't use the bird this year on Rose, we should use it on Asik unless we're gonna package him for a SG. I would hate to see him walk, and he is expiring this year. Either we need to retain him or we need to get something back because his value his high right now.

The numbers do add up. It's basic math. We'll have 7 million in cap space next offseason.

If we land that SG everyone is waiting on, then we might not have it, but for now, we do. That's why my point is that we don't sign Rose as a priority. It doesn't benefit him or us to do it right away.

It won't count towards our cap until the extension kicks in anyways.

Exactly. That's why it makes no sense to sign him ASAP.

Why would it make a difference to sign him right away, unless we're using this year's Bird on Asik?
