Default Re: Chris Paul informs NO that he wants to be traded to Knicks

Sorry for the hold up. My IE was acting up so I had to go with Chrome.....

First, don't underestimate a guy's willingness to take less cash when he wants to control his own fate. Everyone seems to have forgotten but the guys in Miami ALL agreed to less cash to play together. It was the league that negotiated the "sign for the 'Bird' maximum and trade" agreements to help out Cleveland and Toronto in restructuring.

Second, the idea no one would take Chris Paul for one season is crazy. Franchises that are close to/all ready contending, have a reasonably young team, and play in a nice city would all give it a shot. Playing in the Finals in a city like Dallas or Los Angeles might change his mind.

Lastly, the idea that the Hornets have to take whatever the Knicks offer is just silly. In case you forgot, everyone said the same thing about Carmelo Anthony and the Nuggets. In the end the Nugs got rid of a contract they didn't want (Chauncey Billups), a player they didn't know how to use (Renaldo Balkman), all while receiving a pair of young talented forwards (Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari), and a legit starting PG (Ray Felton). The Hornets simply need to do what the Nuggets did which is listen to offers and let the media build pressure on franchises to get it done.

Yes it is.

But here's the kicker.....

Now Chris Paul is threatening not to come to training camp tomorrow, and has talked to Billy Hunter as to what can be done about the trade being smashed.

He mad.

So much for that darling image.

The terrible part is because the league doesn't really let front office type talk the more than reasonable logic on why the trade was vetoed is being missed.

The league owns the Hornets. They are trying to sell the club. Who in the hell is going to buy a team in a horrible sports market, without a star player, and expensive payroll?

Spot on, which is why they said "basketball reasons".

I wanted Chris Paul here like the next Knicks fan, but what Stern did was completely shady, illegal and stupid. Not only did he manipulate and abuse his power, he actually did more harm than help for the Hornets. Not only did he pass up on a fairly reasonable deal, he pretty much assured the Hornets that there is NO WAY paul will ever be a Hornet nor will any other big name free agent. There's absolutely NO WAY Paul will even consider signing with them now. Futhermore, free agents are going to shy away form signing there as long as the NBA owns that team.

Obviously I think the addition of Chandler is a great move for the Knicks team wise. But I have been thinking. I really believe that OVERALL if Chandler plays like he did last year this is a better over all move.

I think one of the great things about the Lakers is the size of the front court. It's one of the big factors they were successful outside of Kobe. This is where I am going in my mentality. A good Center is hard to find but a serviceable PG is a little easier.

Considering the Knicks havent developed a lot of good players and traded the future picks for cap space I think they are looking for a floor general off the scrap heap.

He saved the Hornets from the mistake of a rookie GM. He can't sell the team with Scola and Martin as the star players, and they wouldn't suck enough to get a really high draft pick.

Yea but I'm sure any logical potential owner knows Chris Paul won't be there past this year anyway. I don't think any owners are "renting" the team for a year. If you want to talk the business side of it, the Hornets shouldn't be in New Orleans to begin with. It will never be a basketball city. Basketball cannot survive there. It's one of,if not the poorest cities in the country who's sports fans will always have the Saints in their hearts. What stern did was illegal and immoral.

If we were comparing a good big man to a good pg, I'd agree. We're comparing a good big man to a GREAT pg who pretty much put that big man on the map. Tyson Chandler was considered a disappointment until he played with Paul. I've come to terms with the Chandler signing. I'm pissed about the financial aspect of it but I'm glad we have a legit center who plays D. That being said, please don't ever say getting Tyson Chandler is better than getting Chris Paul. Every summer the Knicks get one player that people get overhyped about and outrageous comments start coming out of peoples ass. Happened with Gallo. Happened with Felton. Happened WAY too much with Duhon.Enough is enough! Let's just rejoice that we have a solid center and that Jared Jeffries is no longer starting. We have arguably the best front court in basketball. Why can't we leave it at that?
