Default What if we had waited for the offseason(Melo)?

So basically we would have been able to keep Gallo, Chandler not to mention be able to sign Melo and Chandler? Then possibly make a move for Paul or Dwight?

Anyways just imagine if we didn't rush for Melo like idiots..
PG: Felton
SG: FIelds
SF: Melo
PF: Amare
C: Chandler
6th- Gallo(virtually a starter)
7th- Chandler
Douglas, Shumpert...
Someone wouldn't be on the team since the salary doesn't match up but point is we would have been in a much better position right now.

Ugh.. I can only imagine Gallo in that 6th man role... But we needed to get the "hometown" kid to no avail..

We wouldnt have melo, because he wanted his extension before the new cba. Melo personally told
dolan that if he dont make the trade now, he was going to the nets.

Then we'd have Deron according to the three GM's invloved.

Not necessarily.
Just because Prokhorov had called Utah and asked about Deron it doesn't mean that Walsh/Dolan/Isiah would have done that.

Deron trade was a surprise, not many people expected him being traded last season. So there's a big possibility that we wouldn't have even made the call.
Also we would have lost pretty much all the pieces because the Jazz wouldn't let Deron come here for nothing. It's arguable that Nets gave for Deron even more than we did for Melo.

If we had waited for the summer only superstar we would have now is Amare.

Then we get Paul or Dwight instead.. Melo was just being a selfish player and held the Knicks hostage. And worst the Knicks gave in, the Nuggets had no leverage what so ever. Worst situation we give up less in the trade.

With the uncertainty of the CBA, Melo was not going to wait till the offseason to sign. We would not have him if we waited.

We would be waiting till next year to try to convince Deron/CP3/Dwight to come play here with 30 year old Amare.

it wasn't a surprise to the Jazz, they were waiting to see who would be the loser of the Melo sweepstakes and get their package for Deron.

here is the link and the article......

http://nbaconfidential.wordpress.com...of-new-jersey/

here is a snippet.....

"Carmelo Anthony joined Amar’e Stoudemire in New York, of course, with eight months of maneuverings mercifully ending with the nine-player trade with Denver that made Madison Square Garden his new home on Feb. 22. But a Monday visit from Utah brought with it a retroactive hypothetical, as Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor made Knicks president Donnie Walsh aware for the first time that it could have been Deron Wiliams wearing the Knicks jersey and not Anthony if those days and dealings had gone differently.

As O’Connor told Walsh approximately an hour before the game and would later repeat in an interview with NBA Confidential, he targeted the Nets’ and Knicks’ assets and decided to play the waiting game. Somebody would lose in the Anthony sweepstakes, and that team would immediately hear from O’Connor to discuss a marvelous Plan B.

New Jersey played that role in the end, jumping at the chance to give the Jazz the same package they’d presented to the Nuggets in order to land Williams after Anthony went to New York and signed a three-year, $65 million extension.
O’Connor said other teams had inquired about the All-Star point guard in the days leading up to the deal, but not the Knicks or the Nets. New Jersey general manager Billy King said the possibility was first raised after Anthony was traded."

We'd have Amare. You can't get mad @ Melo. He made more money being signed and trade. Not to mention, we've clearly shown a lack of patience when other teams start contacting superstars. We may have Amare, Chandler and gone out and overpaid someone else. I have no reservations about the Melo deal. Chandler isnt even in the NBA and to me,he was the best player we lost. We could essentially sign Wilson still. Mozgov is a project who may never pan out. Only person we really LOST was Gallo. Gallo is a good, promising talent BUT...he's no Melo. as much as I criticize guys, I'm playing the other side on this. If that playoff performance against Boston didnt convince you of the trade, then I dont know what to tell you. If it werent for Jared Jeffries, that playoff performance would have been considered an all time great performance. End of the day, none of those guys we traded could have done that given the circumstances of having the next 2 best guys out due to injury. Melo put us on his back not just with his scoring but with tremendous rebounding and underrated passing. He already has more game winners in a Knicks jersey than any player I've seen since Pat Ewing.

I'm not sure the Jazz would have traded Deron for the package we sent to Denver. The package that the Nets sent them was much better than what we were offering, or even could offer.

Take a look at the article in the link I posted earlier.

I think they do it, and we'd probably would have been able to keep a player out of the deal.

But no regrets right now, we are good over here.

It's all speculation anyway, but I don't think the Jazz were in a hurry to make a deal. They could have held onto him this year. I think they took the deal so early because the package was just that good.

Maybe speculation, and it's for sure water under the bridge now, but I'd rather believe what the Exec's of each of the three teams actually said.

Billy and O'connor confirmed the interview, and Walsh admitted he got the call in congratulations, and didn't know Deron was available.

Had he known, he said he definitely had to look at it.

Gotta figure we'd been able to keep at least one piece in that deal.

Chandler was coming off the books as a FA and Gallo Felton is coming off the books this season I think. The Knicks wouldnt get Melo. The Knicks probably wouldnt have any assets to try to sign - n - trade for CP3, or Howard anyways. So they would be left holding themselves praying that these 2 wouldnt go somewhere else instead hoping we could sign them outright this summer.
