back in school when cousins was asked to pick teams in gym class, he didnt go about picking the best team, because that would make him a coward.

I disagree with big Cousins. Since the beginning of the NBA, there have always been loaded teams. Hell I'm 34 and started watching at a very young age. But even then I remember the Doc and Moses Sixers, Showtime, and the Bird Celtics. Cant forget about those deep ass Bucks Teams as well. Later u had Isiah's Pistons. All of these teams with the exception of the Bucks had multiple HOFers on the team. And other All Star caliber players or all time great defensive specialists like a Bobby Jones. But the Bucks did have a stable of 4-5 All Star type players who were all in the top 10 at their respective positions during that time. The Mavs were similar in that aspect as well. Not just very good players, but guys who were top 10 in the L at their respective spots. The Cavs with Price, Harper, Daugherty, and Nance were like that too.

The key is assmebling the best talent available. Lebron tried to get guys to join him in Cleveland. Bron played 7 or 8 seasons with the Cavs. Guys didn't wanna go to Cleveland. So at the end of the day Bron had to start looking out for his legacy. And these owners and GMs aren't the most loyal either. How many of them are willing to break even instead of a profit to get what a superstar needs to contend. Look at what happened to Nique! Gave his heart and soul to Atlanta and in the end they trade him midseason when his squad was first in the East! That year, the Hawks have a great shot for the NBA Finals.

There have always been superteams in the NBA. It's just the methods of assmebling them are different now. If Bird, Magic, and MJ were on struggling teams, with a GM and owner not making the right moves, or having to work to hard (like Bron had to) just to be competitive, they would look elsewhere too. Magic said he would never wanna play with Bird and MJ. But he would play with other legends I GUARANTEE like Ewing, Nique, Barkley, Robinson, Dream, Drexler, etc. It was just that he has intense rivalries with Bird and later MJ. Plus his boy Isiah played the same spot. So for pride or same positions purposes he might not wanna join MJ, Magic, or Zeke. But trust he would join with the other greats if needed. And not just greats, but guys like Nique, Robinson, Dream, Drexler, Barkley, and Ewing are all in the top 10 GOAT ever at their respective positions.

Would have carried more weight if it was someone like KG saying it. A respected veteran amongst his peers, who battled through and through for years with the team that drafted him..

Agreed here, it's not like he went to Northeastern to try and make his mark. Just a young player trying to ingratiate himself with the small market locals.
