Even with just one of these injuries, it was bound to be a tough road ahead for him, let alone two. He can still come back and be a solid contributor, but I think his days of being one of the top stars in the league is sadly over.
The stats were not declining...his ypc was up...he was a top 5 rusher while healthy...

And this when he was about to pass Smith as the Vikings all time leading rusher and I'm not sure how many elite years he's got in him. Probably 2-3 years. I hope we'll see him as a Vike in the playoffs next year.

But this does beg the question, if his career were done after today, would those numbers be good enough to get him in the HOF?
.
Not before guys like Priest Holmes and Terrell Davis. Unfortunately, he'd have to get in the long line of RB who had 3-5 huge years and, due to either overuse, injury, bad luck or a combination of them all, saw it end there.
Re: Adrian Peterson tears ACL, needs reconstructive surgery
sad day for football fans, watching AP being carted off the field is not something anyone wants to see from a team battling for the worst record....
I hope he bounces back, because the best AP memory I want should not be the one where he throws one guy 7 yards out of bounds, runs over a dude, runs over another dude, and carries 3 guys for a first down when it looked like the play was stopped behind the LOS..... even though thats a fantastic memory to have, I want more
only reason teams passed on this guy in the draft was because they feared his salary demands would be prohibitive in signing him, when does a guy being too GOOD actually hurt his draft status
Re: Adrian Peterson tears ACL, needs reconstructive surgery
Running backs tend to drop off pretty fast from year to year even without serious injury. Look what happened to Shaun Alexander. Went from having a career year, to being worthless the next season. Even LT went from being best in the NFL to being a decent back up only two seasons later. I also hope Peterson comes back strong, but I think he has one, maybe two good seasons left in him max, if he's able to get back to full strength at all.
Re: Adrian Peterson tears ACL, needs reconstructive surgery
I know you guys think I am being a silly homer when I say this but PLEASE don't compare him to other RBs...yeah, most RBs drop off but AD is not "most RBs"...he is fckin Super Man
Emmitt Smith ran for a very long time at a high level...yeah he had big holes to run through, but he STILL took a huge pounding every play, the holes had nothing to do with his durability or the shots he took, he still had to get tackled...Emmitt as well as others have shown that durability is different to everyone
Larry Johnson used up his milage in 1 year...Emmitt ran 1,000+ for 10 years straight...they just weren't built the same
Peterson this year was NOT on the decline...this was likely his prime infact...he hasn't seen 4.7 YPC in 3 years...and that with a Christian Ponder pass threat to the D...
