Default Re: Raptors season opener @ Cleveland - predictions?

Was very impressed with Ed Davis. Demar started off slow but picked it up in the 4th. Those two are the main reasons for me watching games this year

^^^ love that quote by Casey also. Kinda weird seeing a Raptors team dedicated to defense.

so for those of us that are only restricted to 20 second ESPN highlights about the toronto raptor games, can someone give their impression on what they saw in game 1? i hear ppl liked Ed Davis and it seems DD was pretty explosive according to the highlights i saw on espn. stats wise it looks bargnani was his usual self and calderon played like his early days with the raptors?

Davis and Amir were both very active on both ends of the floor.

DD started off very slow and didn't look comfortable in the offense early but when Cleveland clsoed the gap in the 4th he took over and put us out ahead.

Calderon was very good. He completely controlled the game and ran circles around Irving.

- The best 3 players, IMO, were clearly Amir, Calderon and Davis. Amir and Calderon pretty much played great overall games. Can't complain about anything they did. Davis still had a couple mental lapses boxing out but his overall ability and athleticism makes up for that sometimes.

- James Johnson was probably the 4th best guy out there. Very active on defense and protecting the rim. Sloppy on offense though. Not very skilled with the ball and the one 3pt shot he made was a lucky prayer heaved up at the end of the shot clock.

- Derozan was invisible for 3 quarters but finally got his game going a bit in the 4th. Overall though, he was pretty much the same guy he was last year. He still looks limited attacking off the dribble.

- Bargnani was invisible in a similar way. Same old jumpers on offense resulting in below average efficiency. He didn't screw up on defense though and was actually somewhat active switching and closing out on shooters. He also allowed several offensive rebounds. The guy just doesn't have the mindset or hands to rebound. Too many times you'll see him trying to tip a ball that he should clearly catch only to be beaten out by an opposing player.

- Butler and Magloire really REALLY suck. There is no logical reason to be playing Butler over Gary Forbes.
