I am kind of surprised about the Angelo decision. This is probably the first time in a few seasons where I haven't wanted to see JA get fired. He has missed out on a number of first round picks but has found late round gems. But he hasn't been afraid to make a big move and make his team better. The trade for Cutler and the signing of Peppers were huge moves that made the team go to the NFCC game last season and had this team at 7-3 and playing like a top 5 team before Cutler's injury.
I'm glad Lovie is staying. I think he's a terrific coach and gets the most from his players. Hopefully with this move it means contract talks can be renewed with Forte. Sign him longterm. Draft a stud in rd. 1. And maybe retool the defense. This team is built for a championship and they need a GM that can take him there.
Notable 1st round picks -
2011 - Carimi, injuries in college and now
2008 - C. Williams, injuries in college and bad as a T. Played well as a LG
2007 - Olsen, had a connection once Cutler arrived but was expendable when Martz came onboard
2005 - Benson, off field distractions and couldn't handle the workload in Chicago
2004 - T. Harris, his best selection, at one point I felt was the best DT in the game
2003 - M. Haynes and Grossman, Haynes a total bust, I still love Sexy Rexy
2002 - Columbo, injury prone in the pros
