This is a valid point but to me it'd still be worth it. If a character is bad enough he brings everyone down and they need to change the culture on that team. The back-up rookie QB that missed the entire season with an injury felt the need to say the following:

You can question whether or not he's the man to say this but the fact that he said it outlined what everyone already knew, that the bad attitudes have become a disease. And when you have a guy that the team elected Captain as the worst offender (from our outside perspective) we've got a nice big bullseye painted on who the front office should cut t send a message. 8 mil per is a lot to blow but if you continue to have seasons like this one then you're spending nearly 70 mil to go 8-8. What's the bigger waste of money?

Bottom line: If you think his presence is a detriment you cut him. Let the whole roster know it's not just about the money, if you're going to be an asshole we don't want you on our team.
