I think it's the complete opposite. I think Polian was ready to cut Peyton (you're right in saying a trade's impossible, Indy'd take a crippling cap hit), let all the vet FAs walk for the most part, and Colts 2.0. Irsay's not ready to do that and you're going to have to pry Peyton from his cold dead hands.

I also think Bill Polian is pretty close to retirement and Irsay wasn't comfortable with Chris (Bill's marginally qualified son) running the show.

Manning has done so much for the Colts franchise. Worth it if he is healthy. I'd pay him.

the Colts have holes to fill...they aren't giving $35 mill to Manning so that Luck can have a good teacher

that's just horrible business

$35 mill can buy a lot of bad ass FAs instead...

Luck is supposed to be a can't miss bad ass anyway right?...if there is ever a QB that doesn't need a teacher it is him right?

So are they trading luck or holding onto him?

I think this was Polians position. The complete opposite is Irsays. Want to note that's just what I think, no unequivocal statements to back it up or anything. I hope I'm right, keeping Luck and Manning is a bad decision, to say the least.

I'm terrified of what Irsay's going to do. Jim Caldwell sucks, but he's "still under evaluation?" By who? Irsay's pillhead ass?

I think Irsay'll insist on keeping both, which immediately ties the hands of whatever new GM, which is just great news for any new guy looking to build his own team. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Irsay's going to **** this up badly. Polian had plenty of faults, but people seem to think it's easy for anyone to build a successful NFL team. Colts fans have been spoiled, they seem to think it's a right that the team is good now.

I dont care. We saw how important Manning was to the Colts franchise. We saw who was and will be forever the face of Colts history. I'd treat Manning like Bulls treated MJ when they paid him big bucks. You can call it bad business but how do you explain letting the face of your franchise go for nothing? Luck better have some luck next season because the fanbase will be sour.

I'm sure John Elway would jump all over this.

So let's just say the Colts get rid of Manning to draft Luck, that is an incredible amount of pressure that Luck is going to be heading into.

Well, Smith is a FA after this year but Harbough and co has said he's the long term answer at QB. I don't see Smith leaving even if he gets a huge offer elsewhere he's an extremely loyal guy.

It's called the West Coast offense.. Run the ball, control clock, short passing, etc.. Guess what? Luck plays in the same system that Alex Smith plays in installed by the same coach(Harbough), Luck last year did the same thing Smith is doing this year.

Oh and Smith has 5 or 6 comebacks in the 4th quarter.

Prime that 35 million you speak of that could buy bad ass free agents....it's not true. All the good free agents that we would want are either going to be resigning with their team or franchised in some capacity. There's really no reason for teams to let go of their great, young players with all these tags and ways to fit contracts under the salary cap.

I do have that feeling. After what Peyton has done for the Colts, "using the Amnesty" on him would just be cruel.

The Colts should keep Manning, draft Luck, and let Luck learn from Peyton for a year or 2. After Manning retires, Luck can take over. Think about it, how many top picks have the chance to learn from a future hall of famer?

Talk to me after fall behing 14 to the Packers and they ask Smith to air it out to catch back up. At that point explain to me how Peyton is not even a possibility.

I wonder about the SF fanbase, at least the Jets fans waited till Sanchez won 2 playoff game before forming that kind of attachment. YOu have to see how he performs in the playoffs before you declare Smith untouchable.

they should release Peyton and build a real team.

Its always better to get rid of players a year too early than a year to late.

I think Peyton probably will try to land some place warm and playoff contender.
