Pistons attendance early in 2011-12 is amazingly low
Official attendance for the Pistons' 100-86 blowout loss to the Mavericks on Tuesday was 10,073, but the Pistons may have missed the two guys in Section 206. They sort of blended in with the empty seats.
The Pistons are last in the NBA in attendance. Entering this debacle, they were averaging 12,037 per game, more than 2,000 behind the 76ers and more than 3,000 behind the Sacramento Kings. The Kings! Have you seen the Kings' marketing strategy? Their owners -- who are rumored to have major financial problems -- tried to move the team, failed, put together an uncoachable roster, let their coach publicly rip and bench their most talented player, then fired the coach. I can't wait for next week, when the Kings hold Stab Your Fans With A Fork Night, then try to auction off the forks.
There are benefits to being dead last in the league in attendance. You don't have to step onto the concourse to hear your friends when you call to say the Pistons stink. But this is a strange sight for those of us who like to talk about what a great sports town this is.
