Default Would the Knicks be in a better position....

...had the Knicks kept Billups instead of signing Chandler?
I dont like what ifs and hypothetical often but I dont know if the record would be better but I dont think the Knicks would look so dysfunctional offensively.

No.

Our offense would probably be better but our defense would be worse for sure.

Billups isn't a playmaker and Amare didn't really flourish under Billups either.

offense MUCH better. defense MUCH worse.

OMG I was definitely about to pose this SAME question. Great minds think alike. I say yes. We'd not only have a pg and a leader to school Shumpert but we'd be better off financially! We could have easily gotten another center for cheap. We didn't HAVE to start Jeffries. Honestly, I'd rather see Harrelson start at C than Jeffries. Wait...did I just say that Is this what it's come to?

Billups is a chucker.
He is experienced, can sometimes make a big shot and knows how to control the tempo.
But just tell me how many Billups-Amare pick and rolls did you see last season ? Not much, right.
Yeah,he's not a playmaker.
He's a shoot first point guard,Felton was much better at making easy looks for his team.

You don't think that had anything to do with the fact that they didn't begin playing together until February?

But even going back to his Pistons days he wasn't really a play making point guard. Now, maybe you have some kind of a point if you're trying to say that Billups is a solid play maker in comparison to what we have now. That makes a little bit of sense. But other than that, you're wrong on his game, and I really wonder what you're seeing when you watch him play. He averages less than 6 assists per game for his career and now starts at SG for the Clippers, and that's basically what he is.

He was NEVER a playmaker.

You give him full season now and he would probably even be worse than last year, not better.

Like I said,Billups is an experienced point guard who can control the tempo, make the right play and hit a big shot.
BUT HE'S NOT A PLAYMAKER

Is he offensively better than Douglas or Shumpert ? Yes.
But that doesn't mean he's Steve Nash.

Amare averaged 24.3 points,7.4 rebounds on 50% shooting in March and 20.8 points,5.8 rebounds on 43% shooting in April (not counting the playoffs).
His number with Billups dropped. He probably wouldn't have been as bad as he's now but he wouldn't be dominating like he did on that 9 game 30+ points stretch either.

So you have to be Steve Nash to run pg for the Knicks? Im not saying he's a top 5 pg, but he's also not a spot up jump shooter. The guy can make plays. He can take guys off the dribble (while not as good as he used to) and he can run a competent pick and roll. For the record, Chauncey is playing sg because they claimed him off waivers and THEN the CP3 opportunity presented itself. I don't think they planned on having 4 point guards.
