I keep hearing this is the problem with the knicks or that is the problem with the knicks. ie. the defense, the fact that melo and amare dont gel etc. The problem with the knicks is simple and its the fact that they dont have someone who can break down the defense and push the ball. This team so rarely gets an easy shot because they have to run half court sets which consist of a player getting the ball making a move and then taking a contested jumper. How often do u see a player on the knicks get the ball in stride and then go up for a dunk, layup etc? it doesnt happen. They need someone who can create a play, attack the basket and find the open man. A jumpshooting team is a losing team cause u can only hit so many jumpshots before u go cold. A player like fields is way more effective when hes attacking the rim. In other words we need a PG. Is Baron gonna be the answer? i dont know about that (and its crazy to think that people are looking at him as a savior), but if we had a a good pg who could create some plays we would be looking at a different team
I still think the biggest problem is our outside shooting. We are the worst in the league in three-point percentage at under 30%. If outside shots are connecting, the passing lanes and penetrating gaps get bigger.
Quality post BrooklynZoo. When you have a pg who can penetrate, you have tons of options. You can pentrate and dish. Plus, even when you're shot isn't falling, you open up offensive rebounding opportunities. Furthermore, you give yourself the opportunity to get to the foul line. When all you can do is shoot 3's, your night is automatically determined by whether your shot is falling. Little to no second chance opportunities. If you do try to follow your shot, you leave the backcourt open for fast breaks. Even the casual basketball fan can understand it if it's broken down properly. Even the best 3 point shooters only shoot around 40%. That means more than half of the time, you're missing AND not getting the rebound because you have to protect your basket (something Douglas always forgets to do). We don't take high percentage shots and it's partly because we don't have a pg and partly because Mike is an idiot.
Douglas is atrocious at the pick and roll. He is almost always looking down or the wrong way instead of finding the open man like Chandler and Amar'e. This is much improved team with an elite floor general who can break down defenses and pass with confidence and intelligence. Just a matter of time gents...
This post is right on, lets go back to the cleveland game, they broke down our defense when boobie and sessions kept penetrating. It was so easy, all opposing coaches have to tell their team is to be aggresive, and there always gonna be shot oppurtunities.
we cant have douglas playing 1 minute at pg anymore, he just cant look down the lane or find his man on the pick. all he sees are the 2 players at the corners
we need to trade him for players who can either penetrate to the hoop or shoot with confidence.
it seems like all his shots are just chucks and nothing more.
Amare and Carmelo need to post up more until their pg situation is taken care of. Make teams double or triple to open the three point shots. Melo is further along in that department than Amare, but he is able to dominate if he's willing.

Can't post these guys up if there isn't a guard who can get them the ball.

Hard to do that when our stupid ass coach is making Melo play "point-forward".
