When I think of "key free agents" that a bad lottery team with no star to build around should add, I think of guys like Eric Gordon or James Harden down the road. Good 23-24 year old players that you try to sign through their entire primes. That's the kind of money you spend when rebuilding. Not a 38 year old PG whose minutes played are surely only going to drop with each upcoming season.
Please, just don't overpay Steve Nash if Raptors somehow get him. Everyone should already know that he has a chronic back problem that he could still play at a high level just because Suns' physio is the best in the world.
It could be a trap, the worst kind for both the team and its fans.
Signing a veteran pg like Nash is a quick fix solution. Seems the management only cares about making a quick buck off the 'general fan', instead of doing a proper rebuild.
I like Nash and think he's one of the greatest offensive PG's to ever play. But at this point in his career, I don't see him as a good fit for this particular team. mo

noone like EG or Harden are signing here though
Nash will get us to the playoffs and make Derozan, Ross, Bargnani and Val look better and maybe that will improve FAs wanting to come here.
Sure they would. It all comes down to money. If I was the Raptors (or any other bad team), I'd be offering max deals to young productive players like these who are/will be restricted free agents. At least force their team to match or sign-and-trade.
It's the top unrestricted free agents that would never sign with the Raptors.
I just don't understand what they are doing. Ok lets say they get nash. Whats next? Play the heat in first round? And where does this team go from there? Where is this team in the next 5 years?
Really seems they like throwing shit on the wall and hope it sticks. Kapono, turkoglu, o'neal, marion. And now possibly nash. Amazing how they dont learn.
This team can't rebuild properly anyway wit the management that is in place so might as well atleast bring in a guy that can do wonders for other young players that we do have.
Although for Nash's sake I hope he signs with a contender, if D-Will re-ups in Brooklyn I thin Nash would be a good fit with the Mavs.
This is just nonsensical. BC should be chasing Dragic, the best FA PG on the market imho. Instead, BC/MLSE only care about selling tickets, mediocrity, and chasing the 8th seed for the next 2-3 years.
My only hope is Nash will decide he wants to compete.
Apparently the losers in the deron williams sweepstakes (dallas or brooklyn) will make a hard push for Nash.
