Default Knicks exercise option on Toney Douglas

NY Post:

The Knicks made a commitment to combo guard Toney Douglas yesterday, exercising the final-year option on his rookie contract, preventing him from becoming an unrestricted free agent this summer. Yesterday was the deadline.
But Douglas didn’t repay them with a good showing last night in an awful 91-81 loss to Cleveland. Douglas, who is now the Knicks’ sixth man after losing his starting point guard job to rookie Iman Shumpert, shot 3 of 12; 2 of 8 from the 3-point line. He also had three turnovers low-lighting another dreadful bench display.

I don't get why. Douglas is far more attractive as an expirer than he'll ever be as a player lol

this dude is having a miserable year and is a big part of why the knicks suck right now. in part because he was expected to run the show which he clearly cant do (at least anytime soon), and cause he puts up over 10 shots a game at a .328 clip, averages 2.4 asts and 2.0 turnovers

Trade fodder.

We're picking up someone's bad contract in exchange.

I'm not suggesting he's the only player out though.

He's leaving with one of our top three, if he goes.

And no, I have no suggestions on that.

I wasn't being sarcastic by the way. I really wanted to know your opinion. I think we should use him to trade for a project or a guy who hasn't lived up to a lofty potential. You know a guy I'd like to take a chance on? Gerald Green. Now I know he's only known for his dunking but I've seen him play in Summer League, overseas and in the D-League. This kid can play and I think a team with a serious lack of depth like us may be the perfect place for him to get a second chance at a decent career.

I just don't see TD really garnering anything on his own.

Sometimes I expect my team to take a chance, and I personally would have jumped all over a TD for Crawford S&T.

Would it have been a great deal? No, but it would have addressed some needs in the interim.

Mainly a playmaker in the backcourt who can get hot in a hurry, penetrates, and draws fouls.

Now right now if I had to pick a player we may be able to get for Toney it would be a bad contract like Devin Harris, and we have no realistic way of matching the dollars.

I know these aren't mouth watering but where are Acie Law and Chris Quinn at the moment?

now is the worst time to trade him. his stock is about as low as itll ever go. before this season he was a contributor, this year he is a scrub. and gerald green doesnt have to be traded for as no1 ever keeps him for too long, which probably says something about him
