Re: All-Star Noah is back
I'm glad he's playing well again, but as soon as he gets his value back up he should be traded for expiring contracts and draft picks. It's not that I don't like him, I do, but as far as production and salary are concerned, he isn't worth it long-term compared to what we can get for the same price.
He makes $11 million next year, and it increases by $1 million every year after that. Omer is a RFA at the end of the year, and Taj is a RFA after next year. We can give both of them extensions for the same price of Noah's contract. Since we are already over the luxury threshold for next season (after Derrick's new deal kicks in we'll be about $72 million), one of Noah, Boozer, or Deng needs to go. Deng is staying - no doubt about that.
If it comes down to Boozer vs Noah, which one would be easier to replace? It's obviously Noah - Omer can do almost all the same things, and the rest aren't that important. If we lose Boozer, how do we replace his contributions? The only way would be to trade one of our assets or spend more money in free agency (which prevents us from extending Omer and Taj)...neither of those is a good idea for a team in our position.
Like it or not, Noah has to go...and that's something I wouldn't have said even one year ago.
