The "character issues" is being played up. The guy failed two drug test. Wasn't a problem child, just liked the chronic. Since leaving Baylor he's completed a drug rehab program.

Injuries are damn near non-existent. His most severe injury has been a pulled quad/hammy.

Considering Stephen Hill got drafted in the 2nd I don't see why people act as though this is a shock. Gordon is a far better WR than Hill is.

I have mixed feelings on this one. Part of me thinks giving up a second round pick in the supplemental draft is ridiculous. Then, I remember that one of the Browns' greatest players of the last 30 years -- Bernie Kosar -- was attained through the supplemental draft. We gave up a first round pick for him and it ended up being an incredible decision.

If Gordon pans out, he wouldn't be the first WR to make waves through the supplemental draft (Cris Carter would take that honor).

Then, I also think about Terrelle Pryor being taken with a 3rd round pick last year, and I'd much rather have Gordon than Pryor.

Hey, if the front office is sold on this guy, as it appears they are, I'm all for it. They hosted him for several workouts and interviews. Also, I know that we were really keen on taking a WR early this past draft. Kendall Wright was pegged as the pick at 24, but he was taken two spots in front of us.

Then, we had Rueben Randle targeted early in the 3rd round and he went a few spots in front of us.

It was like we were just in the wrong spot in the draft to get the WRs that we really wanted.

There is no doubt that it was a HUGE need... Giving up a 2nd round pick is huge, though. I'm not completely against it, but he NEEDS to pan out.

Word is that he may start immediately... Which would be a sign that the front office truly believes in his talent. I honestly haven't watched him enough to give an informed opinion on his game... Just crossing my fingers.

One thing is for sure... the offense has been completely revamped.

We have sure-fire rookie starters at RB (Richardson), QB (Weeden) and RT (Schwartz)...

And possible rookie starters at WR (Josh Gordon, Travis Benjamin) and OG (Ryan Miller).

It isn't inconceivable that all those guys will be starting at some point this year. Having rookies at 6-of-11 spots on the offense would be quite a transformation.

Way to downplay weed. Doesn't matter if its crack, acid or weed in the NFL, if either substance is found in your system that's one tick on your resume and you will soon be up for a suspension.

Bolded - Based on what?

Hill is bigger, way faster, jumps higher, more explosive. Gordon probably has better hands but that's not saying much as that's one of Hill's issues he must work on.

Gordon has nice physical attributes, but he's had one year of good
production, and that was two years ago.

Not seeing how Gordon is a way better prospect.

So I'm downplaying the weed; are you not downplaying that he hasn't been a problem before or since. He was fine academically at both schools, never had any disciplinary issues outside of the weed, and has completed a drug rehab program. On top of all that the guy owned up to what happened prior to needing to. He wasn't a prospect who had his dirty laundry aired then try to make amends with NFL suits. Gordon actually put himself out there, when Baylor said Gordon was suspended for football reason he took it on himself to say publicly it was weed and he was seeking help.

Based on Gordon having 42 catches and 7 TDs in his sophmore season compared to Hill having 49 catches and 9 TDs for his entire Tech career. Based on the fact that Gordon can do something other than run "go" routes. Based on the fact that whenever Stephen Hill comes up as a prospect the ONLY positives that get mentioned are run blocking and physical/athletic skills.

If Stephen Hill becomes what he's projected to be in the NFL it will be the greatest player development and coaching effort the league has ever seen. The guy went from having a 3rd/4th round grade to a 1st/2nd based entirely on having a great combine.

While I agree with all of your points, I think it's unfair to put any stock into Hill's receiving stats at Georgia Tech, seeing how they rarely ever throw the ball in that offense.

I understand that but you can't tell me that there is any "football-skill" reason to be higher on Hill then Gordon.

Without a total overhaul in what he does as a WR, it is basically impossible for Hill to produce on a worth while level.

He's automatically going to be a huge deep threat, something which expands the defense and makes it easier on everyone else even if he doesn't catch balls.

Coaches coach. They'll get him better, but his physical skills are already very rare and he does have production in college to back it up with a senior year with a 30 yard per catch average, 820 yards and 5 touchdowns.... which in that offense is not something to be scoffed at.

The guy ONLY runs deep routes, even those aren't very good routes, and his hands are inconsistent because he's "body catch" guy instead of snatching the ball out the air.

Redskins claim WR Dezmon Briscoe after being cut by Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Don't really get this one unless it's for more camp comp. Redskins are pretty good at receiver rite now IMO

edit: Dallas, Philadelphia, & Cincy tried to claim him too. SCORE, love it now aha
