Default Does NBA needs to make things more difficult for PG's?

OK you have:

A 38 PG still playing some of his best in Nash.

A kid who went to Harvard dominating the league.

A role player suddenly becoming the best player in a team full of All-stars in Rondo which by the way breaks game records from time to time.

A skinny rookie from Europe(Rubio) playing great ball, calling the NBA easy league to play in.

A PG who became the youngest player in NBA history to become MVP in Rose.

A 5'9 Puerto Rican playing amazing in the playoffs in Barea.

Another Rookie in Irving playing great ball.

This position is so stacked and Im wondering if it has to do more with the new NBA rules and if the NBA should do something about it? Are we cheating the legends?

D. Rose

S. Nash

R. Westbrook

No. Teams should just learn how to defend/stop them.

You can't guard quick players anymore, period. And we aren't in some special "era of PG's".

Every rule in the NBA book has been altered to improve perimeter play, and reduce physical/post play.

A lack of handchecking has made it easier, yes. On-ball defense at the PG position is almost impossible. At the same time zone means that team defense is much more important than ever before.

The league benefits off of having great talent on every team. You'd be crazy to suggest the NBA make rule changes to make things more difficult for PGs. It's not that legends are being cheated, it's just that athletes today base some of their performances off of skills acquired from growing up watching those old timers.

I think the OP has a point. NBA currently allow less physical contact, are called fouls that years ago could have appreciated absurd. And rules like 3 seconds favor penetrations, and if at the minimun contact the refs is calling a foul that helps a lot more the current players.

No defensive three seconds. Call carrying and traveling more. Problem solved.

There is no doubt that we are living in a special era for PGs, especially the young guys. I'm not going to sit here and say that the rules don't benefit perimeter players in the NBA, because they do.

But, that doesn't change the fact that there is an absolutely overflowing wealth of talent at that particular position.

Just as the center position is currently dying and in need of an infusion of talent, the point guard position is completely thriving and just gets better and better after every draft.

The rules also favor shooting guards, but you aren't seeing a renaissance at that position. In fact, there aren't many really good young 2s in the current NBA. They have the same advantages by attacking from the perimeter as PGs.
