My girlfriend just got in an accident with my car. It was her fault, and a cop was present. My insurance information was given to the cop. Do I have to report this claim through my insurance? Or should I try to settle it with the other driver? (he only had a busted headlight and a dent)
Just trying to figure out my options, if I have any.

I've never been in an accident, but my assumption is on how bad the damage is and the fact it's your girlfriends fault. You'll have to call up the other driver and just ask them basically, "Was the damage minimal enough to where you want to take care of this without the insurance agencies involved? Or something to that effect.

Report the accident and try and work it out with the other driver. If your insurer never hears from them you're good to go.
I went through something similar, no real damage, the other driver ran into me and we agreed not to report, she gave me 200 bucks to cover the paint then called her insurer and reported I ran into her and drove away.. took some time to straighten out , she got into some trouble for false claims but you have to protect yourself. This is why you pay insurance, they are on your side. Now days you play this stuff straight up and by the book.

Not with my insurance. Similar thing happened where my now ex gf damaged someone's car (her fault) with my car and my insurance told me tough luck. They were willing to pay for the damages but the out of pocket expenses I would've had to pay were outrageous and because of that I ended up just solving it with them and paying their mechanic to do the body work.

That'd be my first option. Of course you'll be paying out of your pocket. But it's better than both your rates going up.
Re: My girlfriend just got in an accident with my car
Went ahead and filed the claim. The guy she hit was a real jerk to her, so I'm sure he was going to file one anyway. Geico already called me and her to take statements. They are going to determine who was at fault, so if they say my girlfriend was 80% at fault they will pay 80% of the damage to the dude's car. I honestly don't want to pay out of pocket, as money is tight, so we'll see how it goes.
We do live together at the moment, but our "official" living addresses are still our parents' house, so as long as they don't find that out and say that she should have been listed under my insurance we should be good.

Until I saw the "he only had a busted headlight and dent" part, I thought it was a serious accident and you were just worried about your car insurance and not your girlfriend.
