Default How did LeBron manage to finish 2nd in DPOY voting...

With 20-30 players being clearly better defenders than him last season?

Not sure if this is a troll thread, but Lebron is a top 5 defender in the league.

It's an award given by the media, and LeBron is the media's hype child. Why are you surprised?

Quick question, did you watch any Heat games last year, or did you at least watch Miami during the playoffs?

Werd. There's no reason why he was ahead of guys like Noah and Duncan. He's probably around Top 5 doe.

Great help defender, bad man to man defender, way overhyped overall due to highlight chase down blocks that ESPN uses to push their agenda of crowning him the king, as they've been trying to do since he was in high school.

Actually, if it was given by someone who knows more basketball, like lets say all NBA coaches like 1st all-defensive team Lebron would have won a DPOY now two times.... considering he got the most votes, more so than any DPOY past 2 years.... So as a Lebron cynic (i.e. Kobetard who doesnt want him winning something Kobe never could or was close to ever winning) you should be happy it is the Media voting for DPOY....

Lol @ LeBron ever getting DPOY if people who knew basketball were voting on it.

There are PLENTY of people much better at perimeter defense than LeBron and plenty of elite rim protectors that people would rather have if they were strictly trying to built a good defense.

LeBron is allowed to be good at help defense because Wade and Battier will guard the other teams best player while LeBron takes the non threat which allows him to take risks in the passing lanes. Don't tell me that LeBron is more important to a defensive scheme when his job is much easier to carry out (although he is very good at it.) and less important since you usually get a mere 1-2 steals a game from it while other guys are taking on the daunting, more important task of trying to slow down actual good scorers...

Don't tell me that in the 2011 Finals when Wade/Battier were guarding Durant and LeBron was guarding Perkins that LeBron was more important for their defense...

Terrible logic. The coaches have traditionally included a SF on their ballots, and LeBron has the position locked up because there is no competition at SF.

Meanwhile, we have great defensive Centers in the league such as Gasol, Noah, Howard, etc. who all play the same position and thus the coaches votes are split between the 3.

All 3 are better, more valuable defenders than LeBron James yet receive less votes because they're going up against each other in the voting process while LeBron is going up against... no one.

Lebron isn't a center. He is a forward and he defends the forward position at an all time great level, when you factor in every facet of defence.

You can argue that there are a few centers that effect games around the basket defensively, and this can have a bigger impact than a perimeter defender.

However I would say Lebron's ability to both defend the perimeter and the rim from a swing man position puts him as a top 3-5 defender in the NBA.

Keep in mind every defensive lapse of his is magnified, and he plays in a complex rotating defensive system that is based around his abilities, with other players with similar versatility but less ability being asked to play within it also.

Lebron isnt the second best defender in the league but he is a great help defender. On-ball is good but nothing great, Wade is a better on ball defender tbh

False. They must include 2 forwards.
Ibaka, Duncan, George are all voted on as forwards, amongst others.

Further to that Lebron had more first place votes than those centers combined.
Seems your logic is worse.
