Default NBA equivalent of the MLB's Triple Crown?

I don't watch as much baseball as I used to, but Cabrera pulling off the TC was a pretty big deal.

Now, I'm wondering what the basketball equivalent would be? We need a leader in three important offensive categories. The way I figure:

FG% is a perfect analogue to batting average (we can use eFG%/TS% if you want, or limit it to guys with a certain PPG; maybe 2P% alone?);

RBIs we have to fudge a little bit, but I think assists suffice (or APG, rather, since totals haven't been big since the 60s);

HRs are the hard part...a home run is a hit on which you score yourself, which I guess is an unassisted basket. This is a fairly lame comparison though, so I think we have to go with PPG.

I know it'll be hard to come up with perfect equivalents, but I don't think this (PPG/APG/FG% or eFG% or TS% or 2P% or something else) is THAT bad. Anyhow, what do you guys think?

I think averaging a triple double is pretty much equal

I mean, the player wouldn't have to avg a triple double AND lead the league in all 3 categories obviously...but I think someone averaging big O numbers or ever slightly better would be on par with the triple crown in MLB

Lead the league in FG%, Ppg, and apg/rpg.

well in baseball its all offensive based and scoring/shooting/hitting type statistics

so the BA is the FG%

the HR would be three pointers ( long bombs )

and the RBI would be total points

thats the most translatable thing i can think of

but it would never happen because the person who makes the most threes would obviously have a lower fg%

so i guess instead you could make it

PPG
BPG
RPG

for big men

PPG
SPG
APG

for guards

You would have to find something more reasonable and possible, that there isnt... its one thing to average a triple double, but to lead the league in all those categories? In todays era that would mean something like 30+ ppg, 12+ apg, 14+ rpg.... even when Oscar Robertson averaged his triple double he led the league only in assists (and for him to also lead the league in PPG/RPG that year would mean to beat out Wilt Chamberlains 40-50 ppg and 27 RPG outbursts)...

There have been damn many Triple Crown winners in MLB http://www.baseball-reference.com/aw...e_crowns.shtml.... so its not a once in a million thing like averaging a triple double / leading the league in 3 major statistical categories.....

it would be:

shooting pct
scoring

and

rebounding for a big

or

assists for a guard

shooting pct is batting average, scoring is home runs, and with a lack of RBI equivalent we would need to take the next most common/important stat.

People are saying the equivalent would be leading the league in points, rebounds and assists??

That would mean a player would average about 30ppg, 14rpg, 13 apg.

This would probably make them the greatest player of all time. Winning the triple crown in baseball doesn't make you the greatest player ever. These are not equivalent.

Anything that involves 3 pt % tips the favor too much in favor of guards or small forwards winning the "triple crown" equivalent. So I suppose leader in assists, rebounds, and points is the best comparison.

But instead, you could do assists + rebounds + points and see who comes up with the highest. Or you could try doing assists + rebounds + blocks + steals + points again and see what comes up.

Finally you could do something like top percentile of the league. For example, a player could be top 1% in points scored, top 5% in assists, top 10% in rebounds, top 40% in blocks, and top 20% in steals. Then add up all the percentiles, and the lowest wins the award.

Could just be a fluke and a one season wonder.

Triple crown hasnt been done in like 45 years right, and its only the 15th time ever in a sport over 100 years old that it has been accomplished. Winning a triple crown is pretty rare.

There would be no basketball equivalent because of the way each position operates but the closest I could think of would be something like Scoring and assists for a guard and scoring, blocks and rebounds for a center
