I agree with your judgements but as little as that "something" might be, it's still more than the nothing they would have got last summer.

Because Nene is a million times better than McGee and they had him locked up?

McGee is trash just like Anthony Randolph.

That may be true, but so what?
They were not going to win it all this year anyways. He gave them some scoring, but nothing that the current Denver as a team isn't able to make up for.
He isn't going to turn into a franchise player at 30. And he occupied 13k of cap space.

Denver without the occasional post presence is going to be primarily a perimeter team. That's something they'll need to try to fix going forward, teams with no post presence at all in the West are going to have trouble, OKC, Dallas, etc. all can really do a number on your ability to hit outside shots. No, Nene was not the greatest player ever but he still provided a different look for their offense.

So? You don't just give away a good player like Nene for nothing. This trade makes Denver a lot worse off.

They should have gotten more, but it was more beneficial for them to sign Nene and get some game from him during the season, and then move him for some kind of piece. Javale McGee may be stupid and he may just have no shot with George Karl, but he's got a lot of talent and does play hard. The money spent and the upside are on Denver's side...just seems they could have gotten Washington's 1st round from next year as well.

McGee is a decent post scorer. He has developed a nice hook/drop step combo.

His lack of IQ shows up much more on D and is sure to drive Karl nuts.

What Denver team do you watch? You do realize Denver leads the league in FTA, right? Or that they dropped something like 92 points in the paint against Sacramento?

Denver will never be a perimeter team, they chuck 3's up that's about it. Nene's been out for 15+ games this year anyways. That "post presence" wasn't there most of the time.

Honestly think this trade is as simple as correcting your mistake. Faried showing that he can be a player, and Denver's depth, Wilson Chandler.

If by "our future got brighter" you mean that you cleared cap space, then whatever; however, if you think that McGee is going to become any better than what he is now....

I think maybe this is the best take. This will free up some time for Faried whom I love as a player. No matter how unskilled someone is, and im not saying Faried is, I always fall in love with players who play their hearts out for every play of every minute they get. He will be a great player.

McGee does work hard and he is talented. If his attitude is correct than he will be a good player. If he really gets into it he will be very good. Don't know if it will happen, but it's there to see.

this was basiacly a amnesty on nene without using the amnesty (keeping it), + getting a player with some potential

this season is a good season to experiment. Mcgee could prove to be very motivated after being the laughing stock of the league.. but he could also turn out to be a terrible fit.. We let him walk if its the last, we resign him for whatever someone else offers him if we like him (no way it's close to 14 after this season, more like 8 MAX)
