Liberty re-sign Essence Carson
The New York Liberty has re-signed fifth-year guard/forward Essence Carson. The announcement was made today by New York Liberty Head Coach and General Manager, John Whisenant.
“Essence’s greatly improved performance last season resulted in a very successful year that included an All Star nod. We are glad to have her back this year, with this group of players, as we continue on our quest for a WNBA Championship,” said Whisenant.
Carson appeared in 32 games in 2011, averaging 22.7 minutes per game. In a marquee season, she earned her first WNBA All-Star nomination as a reserve, averaging 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists. She finished with career highs in steals, grabbing five against Connecticut on Aug. 18, ranking her 18th in the league with a 2.1 steals per minute average.
“It feels great to once again play in a New York Liberty uniform during our quest to reach the Finals. I’m looking forward to a successful season under Coach Whisenant and to a Prudential Center packed with the best fans in the world,” Carson said.
