It was a good read...but there is no way even I would rank Romo over Elway

but it is probably much closer than the average fan would ever admitt, Romo would probably be an elite/HOF type in the 80s

The fact that his numbers completely destroy Elway's is interesting and only so much of that can be attributed to "the game has changed"

and Elway had some poor years as well...even for his own era

Blaine Gabbert had a passer rating of 65 this year...that is a passer rating Elway saw a few times

When he first started Aikman hated us. He went out of his way to criticize the Giants. That passed a few years ago though.

A Cowboy fan saying a former Cowboy player is unbiased when talkin about a current Cowboy player.

Smells like a bunch of Cowsh!t if you ask me.

To be honest I agree. Aikman is talking purely from a skill/what can he do on the field standpoint. Take the wins and numbers out the equation and look at each just as a player.

Aikman is tougher but Romo is more mobile and can make more throws.

95% of fans are completely incapable of removing the W-L stat from QBs

he muffed a snap against the Seahawks...meh

the Giants game he did throw a costly pick, but also had many WR drops similar to what Rodgers had happen this year.

the average fan believes that Romo is an INT machine...he has very few INTs this year.

exactly

anyone who blames Romo for the problems on the Cowboys is either just a Cowboys hater and likes bashing them or just flat out does not watch the games.

Hell, that playoff game against the Giants would have been over had Patrick Crayton caught a wide the f-ck open 30 yard pass down the middle of the field. Instead, he drops it, Cowboys punt, and the defense gives up a late TD (like they have been doing since before f-ing Parcells was here) and Romo somehow gets the blame.

and BTW, while Aikman was pretty good, there is an argument to be made that he was simply the best bus driver of all time. The team around him was so insanely good that you could plug in quite a few QBs and still have similar success. That defense alone would be enough to turn the current Cowboys into a top 5 team.

There is no question he had a great team around him, but he performed at his best when his best was needed - the big games. When you guys won championships, Aikman had a lot to do with it with his steady play.

'92 was spectacular.

'93 he was very good.

'95 he again played very well.

Romo is not even close to that. Has he ever played well in a big game only for his team to lose because the rest of the team sucked? I can't think of any.

2006 was the extra point fiasco. That's on him.

2007, regardless of whether or not the guy caught the 3rd down pass, he didn't play well.

2008, destiny in their hands...game vs. Baltimore week 16, he comes out and plays terrible. Next week they still have a shot at playoffs, he plays terrible.

Last year is the only time he played well in a big game and lost....and he was still involved in the biggest play of the game that went wrong. The over-throw to Miles. Or maybe it got caught in the lights. Who knows....but they didn't get it done.

Back on to Romo vs. Aikman...he may be able to do more things, like run around and throw on the run and make something out of nothing, but Aikman was a better player. You trust him more in big games. You can be more talented and not be a better player. Joe Montana isn't the GOAT because of his talent, he's the GOAT because when his team needed him, he performed.

Dallas ran a ton too then...didn't pass much

I think it is very possible that if Aikman played into today's pass happy league he would have Brees like numbers...he was extremely accurate.

Prime Troy is better than Romo has ever been...for sure.

Romo is much better on his feet than Troy ever was though...Romo is more athletic.

Last years failures by the Cowboys? Not really Romo's fault, he had a couple games where down the stretch (NYJ and DET) he made some mistakes, but overall he basically carried the team for a lot of the year.

Other years where the defense was good? Romo deserves blame.

This is Tony Romo at my favorite.

The "I just threw a pick so now I will unsnap my helmet and take the walk of shame back to the sidelines all the while I try to look OK with the fact that I made a bonehead decision, get em next time!!" demeanor/body language

^^^ every QB does that and Romo had very few picks last year.

Eli did that more than Romo, but its something no one understands.

So did Vick
