From all the stories, news reports and courtcases looks like Iverson always been an asshole to anyone who's not in his crew. He's made his own mess during his life, funny the sympathy he is getting now.
I share your sentiment about Iverson's heart, but it's just not true that his partying and drinking kept him out of the NBA. He was blackballed, simple as that.
is this real? he was blackballed for refusing to practice after he stopped being a superstar caliber player? and being hard to get along with on any team?
I'm still surprised some Australian NBL team didn't throw some money at him, he would be a massive draw for the causal fan here. No real cultural change as he would get in Europe/Asia, no different language etc. Was really hoping it would happen.
And despite guys like AI and Kobe thinking otherwise it's still a team game. Is what AI could possibly bring to a team worth what he takes away?
AI accepted lesser role and team play long time ago. He wanted to be starter though. I can't blame him, he was still starter PG level at 09-10.
He can bring extra scoring power or use his ball handling skills for a short time if team needs. There are many scrubs in the league still find a job. Teams afraid of his bad reputation.

If he was a pg he'd probably have a job. He just likes to shoot and he's not much of a shooter.
Fisher plays for contenders. How the hell Iverson can't be in any NBA team?
He actually could have very well been a great backup for a contender and possibly could still be, but his selfishness cost him any chance at that, with his constant defiance to regulation and order. Not only that but he spat in the face of every great player who ever came off the bench later in their careers. He disrespected the game of baksetball and quit on two different franchises just because he wasn't getting his 20-30 shots a game, that is an absolute joke. Don't get me wrong he had great skills, was a unique talent and a top tier player from '99 until the mid '00s, but he fell off the face of the earth entirely because of his own stupidity.

In Denver, when AI was surrounded by good offensive players and wasn't playing 40+ minutes per game, he shot 45%. He also averaged 6+ apg for his career. You should stop having opinions about players you know literally nothing about.

I know plenty about him. He had the ball in his hands all the time so getting assists doesn't make him any less selfish. He could have led the league in assists with his talent but he preferred throwing up prayers against triple teams than letting a wide open teammate take a shot.

Are you serious? It's his f*cking attitude. It's all about him and always has been. From his "How am I going to make my team-mates better by practicing'" comment to him not wanting to be back-up when he's clearly not able to start in the league any longer. To his he'll do anything for his team to win, then months later refuse to come off the bench to help them. He's ridiculous. Him coming back to the NBA and his attempt to has no longer been about his legacy, but more of making money to support his extravagant lifesstyle.
It's almost a deer in the headlights now. You know in 5-10 years he's going to be broke selling shit everywhere like players with this mindset do.
