Default Barnes or Kidd-Gilchrist

Just wondering what people are thinking would be the best fit for this team.
Personally, I love what Kidd-Gilchrist would bring to this raptors team. An all-around player, glue guy, great athlete, great defender with lots of intangibles and an offensive game that still has lots of room for growth.

Right now we would draft 4th, which should leave one, if not both of these guys on the draft board.

Adding Val and Kidd-Gilchrist would make this raptors team take a nice step towards competing with the big boys.

Calderon Bayless
Derozen Forbes
Kidd Gilchrist James Johnson Kleiza
Bargs Ed Davis
Val Amir Magloire

I see a bit of a logjam either at the 4/5 with one of Davis or Amir probably on their way out. Kidd Gilchrist and Bayless are both able to play the 2, . which opens up time for James Johnson and Kleiza at 3. Forbes seems pretty versatile as well. Lots of options for Colangelo.

I look at defenders that can really defend on that squad. James Johnson, Kidd Gilchrist and Val would be the leaders in that area. 3 lockdown defenders. Davis and Amir are also decent defenders, as is bayless.
A lineup of Kidd-gilchrist and James Johnson defending the wings would be awesome, and Val inside. It would definately mask some of Calderon and Bargs deficiencies, although they have both defended decently this year.

Casey could really turn this team into a defensive juggernaut.
I was also thinking that a little competition for playing time could really benefit players like Derozen, bargs, amir and Davis as well as for Johnson and Kleiza. Slack off in the summer and don't bring your A game to camp and your spot may well be taken by someone hungrier and more deserving.

Thoughts?

I like both and there is little that separates them as overall prospects. I honestly wouldn't care which one the Raptors picked as long as they felt he was the best talent at the pick. This one is for the management and scouts to determine. Whether one guy has some fatal flaw in his ball-handling, his jumpshot form or whatever.

My worries about both right now are these: MKG becomes a jack-of-all-trades but master of none guy. Sort of like a Shane Battier with less range on his shot. Solid player but not one you'd want to take with a, hopefully, top 5 pick. With Barnes it's how effectively can he score inside the 3pt line and can he consistently create his own shot. Is there a legit fear that he becomes nothing more than a Dorrell Wright?

Barnes.

MKG is too similar to James Johnson.

Barnes is more offence and this team needs better offensive players.

If Barnes is gone I am leaning toward Brad Beal ie Eric Gordon without the health issues.

Personally I think we are ok at SF now with JJ and Kleiza. Derozan is really testing my patience.

I think the Raptors need to scout Drummond extensively, as they should be doing with any prospect. Drummond had insane hype; I don't watch much NCAA, if any, so I just go by the reports online, but he went from unanimous number 1 pick to nbadraft.net have the Raptors selecting him at #5...

Is he a 4 or a 5?

Drummond is VERY raw.
But he is a legit 5 (moreso than Val) with a very high ceiling.

He is falling on the draft boards with good reason though.

Yea, that's what I've been hearing. He hasn't developed like many expected; he hasn't been dominant...

I'd take a chance on Drummond at #5. I'd prefer him over Jeremy Lamb who's expected to go anywhere from 5-10. He can ball but you can tell he will be nothing more than a role player.

Drummond scares the crap out of me. There is a high possibility for a team to look like an idiot drafting him high or passing on him. It's such a weird situation because he incredible natural born physical abilities that just didn't translate to any good results this year.

I think my top of the draft would look like:

1. Davis
2. MKG
3. Barnes or Dummond
4. Barnes or Drummond
5. I have no friggin idea

I don't mind Beal and Lamb but I wonder if this would be a bit high for them. I'm not at all a fan of Robinson or Perry Jones. Not a big fan of Sullinger either but I'd rather have him than the other 2 PFs.

Basically, let's just win the damn lottery and make things easy. I dream about the Raptors building around Anthony Davis and Valanciunas at PF and C for the next 6-7 years.

Cody Zeller looks really good lately too. I'd rather have him than guys like Robinson and Perry Jones.

He is growing on me. I think he is going to have a very solid NBA career. Zach Randolf without the baggage. Nothing wrong with a 20 and 10 pf who can also play some centre. Dude is also massive. Would look real good next to val.

Gilchrist is the better player of the two and the better fit alongside Bargnani. I know its way earlier than now projected but I think tony wroten fits into the conversation after the top group with the beals and lambs as someone who coupld fit the raps

What baggage does Zach Randolph exactly bring to a team now? He's always been an under appreciated player and he is the perfect teammate. It's all a reputation I guess he built with the Jailblazers, but nothing that should be a part of a conversation right now...

true, he deserves respect for his play on Memphis.
but looking at his whole career (he was on the knicks too i believe) you have to consider the draft investment. when he was drafted he lacked maturity. as far as i know sullinger is a solid citizen who also puts in a lot of work in the off-season. he came in this season in way better shape than last.

With any luck the Raptors will get MGK. He's exactly the type of player we need. Our search for a 3 would be over. This kid will be a star.

Barnes draft stock has dropped with his performance in the tournament.
