Default 01/09/07 Battle for the Atlantic

hey Raptor fans, after tonight's Nets loss the Raptors are Nets are tied for first in the Atlantic (if you count the very specific tiebreakers, the Raptors actually lead, but since it's not the end of the season, who really cares?) and you guys have a game versus the Wizards and Agent Gilbo. regardless of the outcome, there will only be a halfgame separating the two teams. Tuesday's showdown will be a Battle for the Atlantic. pretty exciting considering this is the first time ever... that the Nets and the Raptors are in a dogfight for the Atlantic.

Should be a great game and answer the question once and for all (okay not once and for all) whether big men are more important than wing men or vice versa.

Toronto has a glut of good big men but not great wing men (sorry MO, Joey, AP, Jones) while Jersey has great wingmen but nothing really inside.

Could be a great game.

Yes but Bargs has shown more agression of late and is playing bigger. Garbo is basically a small foward in a larger body.

I'd liek to see new jersey take the #1 spot from us now. Toronto is finally injury free and looking to take #3 in a row.

I'd be happy to concede first place to you guys for this season so we can keep our pick in the draft.

Wanting to lose so you can keep a draft pick is a losers mentality. Im not saying your a loser, I just dont like that train of thought.

I'm not saying I don't want to make the playoffs but I won't be upset if we don't. I think this team could really use a good young swing man and this draft has some good ones(Thaddeus Young & Corey Brewer could be avaialble in the middle of the draft).

Point taken.

I see this teams window being the next 2-4 years, would you rather they drafted a good prospect and packaged him in a trade for a proven swingman or keep and develop a young swingman.

I guess it would depend on the player(s). I kinda think that if it would be a veteran to be a legit title conternder we need a higher end swingman, which for a team with a pick in the 15-19 range probably wouldn't be able to acquire. I don't think a Corey Maggette level player would be enough, it would have to be a Ray Allen level and we couldn't get that level for a mid range pick. So if the player is Thaddeus Young(who I really like) I think I would keep him.

In 3 years I think a core of Bosh, Bargnani, Ford and Young combined with the veteran presence of Parker, Garbo and Fred Jones among others we would have a legit contender.

We're gonna have to eventually give up the pick I think anyway so I'd rather get the playoffs now. You can't miss the playoffs for the sake of a mid first rounder.

Why not? We are most likely going to be a quick first round exit. This draft is deep. Why not gather that extra building block and give up the pick after we are better?
